Superman

Agreed. That shouldnt have happened until like Phase 2 or 3. Plus it’s just not believable that a guy who was the cause of so much destruction would all of a sudden be idolized by the population upon death. But the studio wanted a fast track to Justice League so....
Because space invader General Zod had nothing to do with the destruction across Earth.

Superman is a hero because he saved the planet from disaster.

Watch The Flash (2023) to see what happens if Clark isn’t there. Zod wins and takes no prisoners.

The complication there is that it was Kal who unwittingly drew Zod (SWIDT?) to Earth in the first place. So in some sense he is responsible for both the threat to Earth (albeit inadvertently and unknowingly) and its salvation.

Not to mention he made no attempt to draw Zod away from the city. His first priority should have been the safety of the millions of people who live there. This was already established in Superman 2.

Dear lord. These people would pass out if they ever saw Deliverance or Pulp fiction.

And if the Avengers didn’t possess Infinity Stones, Thanos would have never come to Earth. It was on Earth where he snapped half the universe out of existence.

And if mutants didn’t exist, the Sentinels would have never been created. They would not have pulled a Terminator 2 Judgement Day on the planet. Genociding both humans and mutants.

Clark was looking for answers about his identity. He didn’t create the situation or influence Zod to be the way he is. Zod was a killer and usurper from the day Clark was born.

Most villains don’t need their hero’s actions as an excuse to do mayhem. Spider-Man and Batman villains do just fine with no provocation.

The fight did move into orbit briefly. Where Zod and Superman destroyed one of Bruce’s satellites (rude). But then Zod brought the battle back to Metropolis.

Cavilman was overwhelmed fighting an enraged Zod with nothing to lose.

Just saw this in my YouTube recommendations - an hour-long edit of some of the featurettes from the 1978 Superman blu-ray.

A Superman with far more training than Cavill’s.

Especially as he’s essentially a rookie.
