Superman

Weird that they used an aged head shot of Welling for their fake Superman image, considering he had given up Supermanning by the time he looked like that.

Although come to think of it, they never did make an excuse for why he had aged so noticeably in just two years of in-universe time. Giving up your powers is a bitch, I guess. ;)

Maybe he only took a break as Superman. :D

I found it ridiculous that he quit being Superman so shortly after becoming Superman and after everything he experienced in Smallville, but that is another discussion.

I wonder if Christopher Reeve's name is misspoken more due to George Reeves or Keanu Reeves or just plain ig'nance.

Probably the latter. I see Jeffrey Combs spelt as Coombs and Lance Henriksen said as Hendriksen a lot too. It's hard not to correct them every time. ;)

I think Reeves is simply a more common surname than Reeve. But my God, it's still not that hard -- especially since it's often encountered from people who are supposedly devoted fans. Getting something as basic as the man's name right seems like it should be a threshold qualification for the fandom.

When Superman the Movie's publicity kicked in back in 1978, despite Reeve's name plastered all over printed media, news coverage saying the name, there were many people who just said "Reeves". I have little doubt it was due to an awareness of the Reeves series (FYI, the TV series made a big return in syndication in the mid 70s, shortly before the Donner film's release). Additionally, I do believe the emphasis on "Reeves" was born of the morbid interest in Reeves' death, which--at the time--was one.of those most famous, discussed Hollywood tragedies.

Nice cast for Superman 2025. Chris Reeve's son is in it.

Gunn announced on his official instagram that krypto the superdog will be in his superman movie.

I'm not loving that idea. But if anyone can make it work it's Gunn.

Missed Opportunity Dept: Casting Robin Williams in a role in one of Reeve's Superman films. IIRC, they had a friendship going back to their days at Julliard.

I'm not loving that idea.
I fucking am. Every indication is that Gunn is leaning delightedly into the comic-bookiness of it all, and after a series of hyperserious Superman productions -- including my beloved Superman & Lois, which has been wonderful but not exactly light on its feet -- we're way past due for a fun, funny, colorful, feel-good time with Lois, Clark, and the gang. I'm hoping that's what Gunn delivers, and including Krypto is another encouraging sign that he will.

"I'm his mother Jor-El! He needs me! I want a seat in that second rocket!!!!"

"Or.... Let's give your seat to the dog?"
