Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 3

But yea. They just basically cut SMALLVILLE out of the show so moving away from it either to Metropolis or possibly somewhere else (maybe in hiding?) would make more sense than explaining why everyone isn't appearing anymore.

But they said they hope to have them appear on a recurring basis. As I said, it's just a matter of staggering their appearances -- maybe you have one episode that features John Henry and Natalie, then another that focuses on Lana and Sarah, then one that features Kyle and Chrissy, etc., rather than having most or all of them in a single episode.

my sentiments exactly.
Understand the sentiment, but can't agree. Tulloch is the best live-action Lois ever, and Hoechlin a top-three Clark/Supes. I would take an additional ten episodes of just the two of them in a room talking, if it came to that. And the fact that they are finally going to be confronting the franchise's ultimate nemesis -- a character Hoechlin's Superman has never before interacted with onscreen in any substantial way -- makes it more than worth doing, IMO.

It certainly looks like the current season is building to a cliffhanger of Luthor being released from jail, and it would be a pity if the show were cancelled before that could be explored. A shortened final season to wrap that up is preferable, even if belts have to be tightened.

Lex Destroys Smallville. Some of the characters die like Sam Lane. The Irons return to their universe to search for something that helped stop the Lex in their universe and return in the final two episodes..

The Cushings all die along with the Reporter lady. Superman and family move back to Metropolis to stop Lex and also they literally no longer have their home. When the series ends we see them making efforts to rebuild their home in Smallville and also we see others return to rebuild the town again.

That sounds like the kind of gimmicky plotting you'd find on other CW-DC series.

The Cushings all die along with the Reporter lady.

This series will never go in that grim direction. At best, Kyle or Lana might die, but not the entire family. If Chrissy dies,it would not mean much, as she was not a well-developed character, so any attempted to give her a big send-off would seem forced for a character that never earned much emotional investment from the viewers.

Superman and family move back to Metropolis to stop Lex and also they literally no longer have their home. When the series ends we see them making efforts to rebuild their home in Smallville and also we see others return to rebuild the town again.

The rebuild part is not too wild a theory, but it would only work if the ultimate coda to the scene focuses on the twins going their own way in life (leaving Smallville).

S&L S4 will only have 5 regular cast members, which also includes Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor.

Everyone else is either not returning next season or will be demoted to guess appearances.

My guess is John Henry Irons and his daughter will move away from Smallville in the first episode of S4 when Diggle offers him a position within ARGUS that conveniently prevents him from helping Superman during that season.

Lana and the Cushings will be reduced to being nothing more than background characters with all the drama and most of the plot focusing on the Kents.

There's no reason to jump to that conclusion. A lot of important story can be told through recurring guest characters who aren't part of the regular cast. Chrissy Beppo was only recurring in season 1, and she made enough of an impression to be upgraded to regular. In season 2, both of the main villains, Ally Alston and General Anderson, were recurring guests rather than regulars. This season, Peia and Matteo are non-regulars who've both played a major role in the storylines.

Skimming over some other Arrowverse seasons: In Arrow season 1, non-regulars who were vital to the storyline included Malcolm Merlyn and Felicity Smoak. All three of the main antagonists of Supergirl season 1, Maxwell Lord, Astra, and Non, were non-regulars. Ava Sharpe and Gary Green were recurring in season 3, as were its main villains Nora Darhk and Kuasa. Gary was recurring for three whole seasons before getting upped to regular. And so on. It has never, ever, ever been required for a character to be a full regular to be of major importance to the storyline.

Often, the difference between a regular and a recurring guest is more about salary and contractual commitments than story importance. One could argue that on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, non-regular cast members like Garak, Nog, and Kai Winn were more important to the overall storylines than the regular Jake Sisko. A lot of the time, series regulars would be given a single token scene in an episode that had nothing to do with them, for no other reason than to justify the contractual requirement to pay them for every episode. There's a reason it's called "regular" instead of "important."

With Cudlitz becoming a regular, its signalling just how much the dumped actors will not be critical to the final arc of the series.

If that happens, I suppose the seeds of a possible Irons / Lana relationship will go bye-bye. Moreover, Irons promised to look after Matteo, so I guess that will play a part in setting up where Irons and Natalie end up by season's end.

Smallville also only had 5 regulars in its final season. Well 4, and the occasional appearance by Alison Mack in the credits. But they still managed to bring back nearly all their former cast and other important characters via the guest star route. So it's not impossible that we'd still get Lana or John Henry. Just not with their own b-plots like we have been.

I think I am going to miss Kyle the most. I really like his down to earth, very earnest personality. They could have so messed up this character by making him a toxic jerk but they didn't do that. I was also digging the budding romance with Chrissy.

While I like the Irons I also kind of like Superman being the only superhero on the show. Plus I kind of liked him better when they didn't have the daughter around and he was a grieving man who lost his entire family and world.

Sarah has a little to much teen drama attached to her and while I like Lana I feel the character became rudderless after the breakup with Kyle. Sam would have been perfect in a reduced role where you brig him in for the just the big events when you need to deal with the government but sadly the actor wasn't interested.
