Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

From Total Film

Great shot.

Great. A badass Superman. Just what we needed.
And so help me, the first person to mention 1939...

Yeah, who wants a Superman who tries to look serious and badass?

Hell, I'd have it so that he's in the film but Superman's facing off with Metallo. Introduce Kryptonite, begin the Superman-Luthor rivalry, AND have some excellent fight scenes.

Don't worry, this is Zack Snyder. I'm sure he'll have TONS of crazy, over the top action scenes in this movie.

Yeah. I'd like to think after Avengers and Thor they would realize that they can go with the crazier stuff and people will still see the movie. I would love to see Brainiac, Parasite, or Metallo in a big budget movie, most of the animated stuff I've seen with them I've really liked.

Yeah that kind of thing can work, but personally I don't want Superman to be just another colorful, jokey, Marvel-style comic book movie with two-dimensional villains. I want it to feel a bit more special and unique than that.

Avengers, Iron Man, and Spidey 2 are certainly great examples of that style, but to me Superman requires something a bit different (and yes, I know the Donner movies were comic booky in the extreme, but there was still an equal amount of reverence and seriousness there to balance things out).

David Goyer Says the Man of Steel Trailer is Just the 'Tip of the Iceberg'

It's something Chris [Nolan] tried hard to do with the Batman films," Goyer said. "I'm genuinely pleased with how much secrecy we've been able to maintain. There's so much of the movie that people don't know, that hasn't been touched upon. The trailer's just the tiniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg."

This new suit is easily the best ever seen on film, I particularly like the proportion of the shoulders to the waist...which seems to be augmented over and above his body type.

RAMA

I've seen several pics from the movie of him shirtless, and unless there's some CGI trickery involved I'm pretty sure that is all him.

I'm not sure you could even make the suit tight enough to show his abs like that. I'm sure it's mostly his own physique, but with some enhancements built into the fabric for better definition.

Always wondered if they ever considered Schwarzenegger as Superman in the 80s and 90s. If anyone had the superhuman physique and look of the comic book bulked up Clark Kent, it's him.

Yeah, those abs are clearly being enhanced a little bit. Although Cavill clearly bulked up quite a bit for the movie, the suit just doesn't look thin enough for those muscles and veins to be entirely his.

It's not like he's wearing a wet T-shirt or something.

Judging by the trailers, this movie looks to be kick ass and I can't wait to see it!!

Nobody can beat Christopher Reeve for that iconic look, but Henry Cavill looks like he'll play Supes as more of a working man who happens to have superpowers.

Can't wait to see it from that angle!

Working man with superpowers is how I would describe Dean Cain's take on the character. If Cavill is similar I will be very happy.

His "Voldemort" Lex worked for me on SMALLVILLE...so we shall see. I do liked the actor even if he isn't "named". ;)

I loved Dean Cain as Clark. I think he nailed the Clark role dead on. I wasn't impressed with his Superman though.

I let it slide mostly because that series was more of a romantic action comedy, and the chemistry between Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher was incredible to watch. I was shocked to see that these two weren't actually dating, or interested in each other in real life. They certainly had the acting chops to show genuine interest on screen.
