Superman (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Great. A badass Superman. Just what we needed.

You have no idea how desperate WB must be right now.

It's sink or swim time for them to get this franchise right and have it be successful

We all know how well a neutured Superman did in 2006

The biggest complaint from "Superman returns" was the lack of action.

People wanted superman to punch something!

And for the last ten years we had a mopey superman wannabe on tv

So you'll forgive us if we want a more proactive Superman.

If they wanted to go for more obscure villains, they could always try for the Eradicator instead of Brainiac, or Conduit.

The LAST thing Warners wants is an obscure villain. They want a new superhero franchise to rival Marvel's Avengers shared universe films.

Most of the Marvel movie villains were pretty obscure guys until the movies used them.

Hell, Nolan used villains the public weren't usually aware of (Ra's Al Ghul, Talia, Scarecrow, even Bane to an extent).

Exactly, so why NOT use Superman villains who aren't Lex Luthor, or Zod?

Probably because most of Superman's other villains are a lot more weird and fantastical than Zod.

Nolan and Snyder have talked a lot about making this a more "grounded" world, so having Supes go up against killer robots, giant aliens, or monstrous mutant versions of himself would probably defeat that a bit.

At least for the first movie. I'm sure we'll see some version of those other characters in the sequel.

Which is why the grounded approach sucks ass. As good as Nolan's Batflicks are they were equally disappointing in some regards because of the limitations set by themselves(!).

I hope you're right and they cut loose for sequels.

I have to admit Shazam! I always crack up looking at your avatar, especially because I have to agree with you in regards to not liking it grounded. I enjoyed the Nolan bat films, but I'm really hoping once this Superman film does well, we can see another baddy besides Luthor in Man of Steel 2.

Hell, I'd have it so that he's in the film but Superman's facing off with Metallo. Introduce Kryptonite, begin the Superman-Luthor rivalry, AND have some excellent fight scenes.

Yeah. I'd like to think after Avengers and Thor they would realize that they can go with the crazier stuff and people will still see the movie. I would love to see Brainiac, Parasite, or Metallo in a big budget movie, most of the animated stuff I've seen with them I've really liked.

Crazier is Imperiex, Doomsday, Darkseid, I'd give it to Brainiac but Parasite and Metallo seem like appetizers. :p

Oooh, I can't believe I didn't think of Doomsday or Darkseid, that would be awesome. I'm not familiar with Imperiex.
