I really thought that this movie would hit a billion. I fear those days are largely over for superhero films.

Yes, that was a year ago (damn, already?!) but that's recent enough to not discount superhero films yet.

Thing is Superman has always had a very strong American flavor to it and that understandably doesn't appeal to some countries (especially now...). Superman was never going to hit big in China and I would be surprised if there are any billion dollar films that didn't do well in China (I'm ready to be proven wrong).

Really enjoyed this movie, especially Krypto!

So nice to have a Superman story that has plenty of fun stuff and laugh-out-loud moments, sorely lacking in the last two movies.

Still. To make a good profit on these they need to lower the production budget. The next one will probably bring in less. So they need to be careful on the spending.

Should also fit with Trek and other, similar IPs. Should.

This was the weakest of Gunn's three DC outings, but that doesn't make it bad, merely okay. Like others have said, it felt overstuffed with the metahumans and franchise-starting stuff, but I liked the Superman/Lex/Lois/etc stuff. And I liked that Supes wanted to watch footage of Ma and Pa Kent at the end, it's good that he likes his Earth family and assimilated into human culture. Despite all the hand-wringing out there on that point.

I mentioned this in the Fantastic Four thread, but I simply can no longer afford going to each and every movie anymore. Tickets prices, prices for drinks and snacks. Gasmoney for driving to the theater. It's insane.
Plus, with movies being released on streaming so fast, I can cherry pick which one I really want to see in cinema's and wait for the others to be released on streaming. Meaning I can watch it on my big flat screen on my own couch with beers I like and a 250gr bag of chips that costs 1,40 instead of small bag that was 4 euros. Also, no annoying people. The thing I hate most about going to the cinema. Humans. I hate humans.

I wonder what would happen if there were tiered pricing for movies. The ticket prices could be adjusted based on the cost of making the movie or the expected attendance. If movie tickets changed prices the way airline tickets do, it would be interesting to see what happens.

Our local cinema has is 5.99 all seats which is great value in my opinion, and the once or twice a year we go ill support them and buy a drink.

As said above though it's not just the cost, in my opinion people seem to be more annoying now, talking, eating, messing around on mobile phones etc etc. It never used to be like this, or maybe it did and I'm just becoming a cranky old git.

My projector set up at home gives me a big screen experience without the annoying elements.

Superman made 955,000 bucks on Friday. Close to a million dollar day, a week after POVD. They're looking at 3.5 million for the weekend.

MoS was pretty much done after 31 days; at this point it was bumping along the bottom at an average quarter mill daily take.

Most of ours are at least double that, but our local does vary by seat.

For my friends and I, the best seats happen to be 5.99 (Best legroom too) and fortunately, we also don't seem to have much of the mobile phone/talking etc issues either.

Downside is limited screens, so if you don't see it the first week, airing times tend to be later than we prefer

For the cinema, we used to go to, all seats are now 11 - and the subsidy on the car park ended, so for any of the longer movies, you're probably paying another 10-15 quid there too.
