Big plot hole with Supergirl being there as she would have known Jor El and hence could give some insight into his character. It’ll also be interesting if she had a mission as well.
No, that's not a plot hole as there is a Supergirl movie coming up that will possibly address her relationship with her family and Krypton in general. We've no idea when she left Krypton and under what circumstances. She could be born and raised on Argo after Krypton's destruction. Again, we just don't know.

Really Kara probably thought it was better that Clark didn't know the whole truth about his bio parents since it had inspired him to do so much good.

I like that she probably just lets Krypto do whatever he wants because he's the only other survivor of Argo City, like he's earned it. She's a mess in the best way, the Supergirl movie is going to be great.

Y'know, with respect to the Reeves films, Superman: The Movie and Superman II, the sfx were cutting edge for the time. They could not have done better at the time than they did on those films. Superman IV's sfx went to a cheaper fx house due to the film's low budget and it shows. In this day and age, the sfx of the first 2 Reeve's films, and even Superman III, which was awful, don't bother me at all.

And I don't see what's outdated about the supporting characters. I dunno, I've watched a lot of old films on TCM and every one of them is a time-capsule of the time it was made, even the Star Trek films. I've hardly ever had a problem enjoying an older movie. They are what they are and there is a reason they become classics, like the original Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, etc.
The main reason the effects look so bad in "The Quest For Peace" was because Cannon Films had several other movies in development at the same time, and they refused to give Reeve or Sidney Furie any special consideration. Reeve later wrote in his biography, that if Donner had directed that film, Superman's walk toward the United Nations building would've actually been shot there, and tons of extras would've been on hand. Instead, it was done on a small street in England, with slight rain falling and pigeons added for atmosphere.

It's also worth keeping in mind that in most versions Kara lived in Argo City with her parents, so she might not have even known Lara and Jor-El that well, and might not have been aware of their attitude toward Earth.
I’m a bit confused why Pracemaker is still around. He’s from the other timeline.
It looks like they'll be addressing this in Season 2 of Peacemaker.
Krypto somewhat understood English.

All Kyptonian Dogs might be as smart as those Gorilla's who do sign language, but this particular dog is also an asshole.
No, he understood just as much any dog. One of our dogs will even eavesdrops on my mom and I and will react perfectly to what we're saying even when we aren't talking to or about her. People dismissing animals' intelligence just
Dogs are more assholes. Just noisy creatures.
You obviously need to meet more dogs.
I have a tiny dog (terrier/schnauzer cross) who thinks she is the size of a German Shepherd.
We had a Great Dane who thought he was a Chihuahua lap dog.
Bad:
  • I really disliked Supergirl at the end. Just totally disrespectful to her cousin for watching her dog that wrecked havoc on his home, and then calls him b@tch when leaving. That is not a good introduction to a character that is suppose to be the lead for the next film. They would have been better off just keeping it as Superman's dog or not make Supergirl so obnoxious.
I don't think she was actually calling him a bitch, a lot of people just talk like that. For people like that "bye bitch" is just how you say goodbye to your friends.

I saw Gunn's Superman last Friday night with my wife (the kids were at camp ha ha).

I loved the film. It has heart, it has characters ripped right from the comics and I loved the focus on kindness, which has faded as an American value. Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult were great leads. Loved Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific and Fillion's Guy Gardner.

My wife loved it too. She wasn't crazy about the violence of Man of Steel and she was prepared for more of the same and was surprised how much she enjoyed the new film. She actually liked it more than the original Superman: The Movie and Superman II.

Again, I loved the film, but, for whatever reason, I still like Superman: The Movie and Superman II a little more. Maybe that's all due to Christopher Reeve, I don't know. Reeve is still the number one Superman for me, but Corenswet and Superman and Lois' Tyler Hoechlin are 2 and 3 (haven't decided what order).

I had a few peeves though:

1. I didn't care for the depiction of the Kendra Saunder's Hawkgirl. She seemed really spoiled and unlikable. I can't see Hawkgirl siding with Guy about not wanting to help Superman. Guy yes, Kendra, no way.
I liked Hawkgirl, I didn't get any of that from her.
2. It was great to see Metamorpho, but, again, he didn't seem exactly like Rex Mason. Rex always seemed like Marvel's Thing, bitter about his looks, but a tough guy with a soft interior who would bth out Batman.
To be fair, this was kind of an extreme situation, so it probably wasn't the best example of what he's usually like.
3. The big twist with Jor-El and Lara: I'm not going to spoil it. It worked well for the movie and underlined it's theme, and it isn't exactly unprecedented in the some depictions of Superman's origins in the comics.
That said, I would rather have had it the other way, which is far more traditional in the Superman origin stories. That said, I have an idea how to fix this (and I'm sure others on this thread have the same or similar ideas), that could naturally lead to a plot for the next film. I'm thinking about messaging Gunn with it if possible but I would not be surprised at all if he is already planning to go in that direction based on what he said about Bradley Cooper returning as Jor El.
No offense, but I'm not sure a writer of his caliber is really going to need writing help from a random person on the internet.
I guess Gun wanted to show that the Justice Gang was a group by giving them uniforms like Terrific's costume. Terrific looked great, but I would've much rather Guy was wearing his GL uniform with his vest and roach-stompers. Oh well!
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Guy in something closer to his usual GL uniform when he shows up in Lanters. He probably only wears his costume he wore in this when he's doing stuff with the rest of the Justice Gang.
Also, although the Engineer character was a great baddie for the film, I'm kind of wondering how Gunn will reconcile that character with the Engineer of The Authority with the same name. The Authority's Angie was a scientist and a good person and I can't see her joining up with a scumbag like Lex.
Yeah, I'm curious about this too, I've never read any of the Authority comics, but I do know she's one of the main heroes from. I had assumed she'd get some kind of a redemption at the end, to set her up as a hero for the Authority movies, but she was just as bad at the end as the beginning.
The only DC project I'm a bit concerned with is the Lanterns TV show. It looks like it is something new by Tom King, who I've just started reading with Batman. I think he's a great writer, but he's only done one issue of Green Lantern to my knowledge. GL became a breakout book with Geoff Johns famous run, and I'd feel better if Johns was the showrunner for the GL show, but I guess that the bridge between him and DC/Warner's has burned down in the wake of the Whedon Justice League fallout and the general failure of the previous DCU. I'm also concerned that Lanterns will kill off Hal Jordan or make him Parallax. I guess we'll see.
If it makes you feel any better King's not the showrunner, Chris Mundy is, he's just part of the writing team and a producer.

Not sure if anyone noticed but on the inside of the Hall of Justice there are murals. Towards the ceiling. Hard to completely make out but look heroic figures of the past. Classical heroic symbols of distant past… maybe. But one looks like Wildcat… maybe.

EDIT https://aiptcomics.com/2025/07/12
Clearly I was not imaging things. So many posts not sure if mentioned yet.

Classic DC heroes. Silent Knight. One of their cowboy., The JSA. And Vibe!!!! Probably more too.

No offense taken. I just thought of what I would do to fix that development. And, you're right, there's no reason to hold it back. Ok, here it is: The message was doctored by Brainiac, the central computer of Krypton, or the Eradicator. That leads to either of them as the bad guy for Superman 2. The Eradicator might be especially neat, as it could start to brainwash Superman to be more Kryptonian like the 80s story or try to replace him. That's my idea, for what it's worth (nothing).

People showed up, they didn't stick around because it sucked.
Nah. MoS was a modernized look at Superman and overall it was way more entertaining than the current crop of cape movies.
It's fine. Some of the scenes were cool, but it's mostly an overly dramatic, self-indulgent mess like most of Synder's work. The man should just go ahead and make a 12 hour long movie based on Ayn Rand that's 90% slow motion and be done with it.
Wut?
Actually the people who say it's woke haven't seen it. They are going off of one comment Gunn said. They've tried to make it political. As a matter of fact a lot of reviews it isn't woke at all. It seems Gunn decided to just make a fun movie with no messaging or preaching. I haven't seen it but that's what I'm getting from the reviews I've read or listened to on youtube.
Agreed, Superman 2025 isn't woke at all, it's just an incoherent mess.

I reread them recently. If you're interested, I'd read the entire Warren Ellis Stormwatch run that leads directly into the creation of The Authority. Then, read the Ellis and Millar Authority runs. The idea is basically showing superheroes going over the line and actually trying to change the world and being celebrities, and killing badguys. It is incredibly violent, funny, and has wide scale action. But, yeah, right now, I don't see any resemblance to this Engineer and the Authority's. Kind of worried about that, since I think it'd be brilliant of DC films to do a rated R Authority movie. Gunn said that that has been pushed back though and, really, it might be too much for Zaslav to okay seeing as he apparently ditched the Coates Superman film for being "too woke."

How is it modernized? It’s embarrassed to be a Superman movie. It’s just faux edgy schlock trying to be serious when it’s the most braindead, uninteresting take on “what if Superman really happened”.

The flying scenes are cool and the Zod fight is fine, the true shame is that Cavill never got to shine as Superman. He could’ve been great if given good material.

I appreciate Snyder's efforts and explanation. He does his thing and I like that about him,
The thing about Snyder is that he said he was a fan of Superman and the comics, but he really wasn't.

Snyder likes some comics, namely the edgy ones that have deconstructed the superhero archetype, e.g. Moore's Watchmen and Miller's The Dark Knight Returns and 300. He apparently had a big falling out with Geoff Johns over Justice League, who is pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to comics.

I don't think Snyder was the right guy to do a Superman or Justice League film at all. His Superman was the antithesis of what the character should have been. Great Superman writers like Mark Waid and Grant Morrison's criticism of Man of Steel were kind of the ultimate criticism of Snyder's approach.

That said, I do think Snyder would've been great at doing The Dark Knight Returns or a similar Batman project. He's said how much he loves that book and he pretty much got to do a lot of that with Batman v Superman.

I respected what he did with his 3 DC films, but I still thought that the tones of Man of Steel and Justice League were just wrong. But WB should've known better. They knew what Snyder could do and they went with him, even after Man of Steel's mixed reviews. They rushed out B v S and messed it up (the Director's Cut works for me, I never saw the theatrical cut). By the end, they got Whedon in to do some major rewrites with support from Geoff Johns and made an decent movie but one that is inferior to what Snyder wanted to create as shown by the Snyder cut.

I agree with you regarding Cavill. He was stuck with Snyder's stories. It's a shame. I liked him as Superman and I know he wanted to do a more hopeful and likable take. It wasn't his fault at all.

It made $670 million worldwide; and no I'm not bringing this up because it's my favorite Superman film, it's not - by a long shot. Until this one, my favorite was still Superman II, but yeah Gunn's Superman has surplanted it for me.

Both Supes and Lex were very well done and I actually liked Mr. Terriffic in this one; and he's a DC character I never really cared for until this version of him.

And (unfortunately) while James Gun's Superman did well domestically; currently it's not doing that well in foreign markets, so it may not even make what MoS did overall 12 years ago, (Which would probably be bad in WB's eyes). :(
I think WB/DC of 2025 is way different than in 2013.
Back then Marvel was hitting 1B with nearly every single offering and WB had higher hopes with MoS after the abyssmal failure of Green Lantern.
TDKR was a billion too but they weren't universe building yet.
If Superman 2025 can't do 600M+ I don't think it'll have an effect cuz even JW:R probably won't hit 700M.
Hell with its $874 million worldwide gross, to this day WB execs still feel Batman v. Superman underperformed.
It honestly did underperform.
Everybody remembers the absolute fucking HYPE that BvS had and this was coming right after SW:TFA.
That 2nd weekend BvS drop however derailed the DCEU for the next half decade.
My surprise though is Black Adam making 225M internationally. How TF that happened?

In what way? Peacemaker is a James Gunn production and has a second season on the way. He's also using characters from his The Suicide Squad. As @Mudd said he's bringing stuff over on a case-by-case basis.
Which is also pretty much what they do in the comics whenever there's a continuity reset. Some books go back to issue #0 and start over, other just carry on as they were before whatever cross-promotional mega-event disrupted their run, and many fall somewhere in-between.

If people really need a reason why a fictional universe has some but not all of the same actors from another very similar fictional universe; one should just assume it's the result of The Flash movie shenanigans (in more ways than one) and move on. It's really not worth overthinking it.
