Speaking of changes to the mythos, a minor one I caught was Lois referring to herself as a “girl from Bakerline,” suggesting she’s a Metropolis native born and bred. Most modern versions have emphasized the idea that she was an Army brat, with the implied itinerant upbringing.
Just because she was born in Metropolis, that doesn't mean she stayed there for her whole childhood. Military kids travel with their parents all the time, and many still refer to their birthplace or a longtime residence as "home".

It’s hard to believe now but before Crisis on Infinite Earths Lois’s parents were farmers in Iowa! https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Samuel_Lane_(Earth-One) which does not fit any version of the character. Also forgotten when her Army Brat backstory was introduced her father was retired military by the time Superman appears. With no significant rank or role in any stories. It was retcon that he was an active or a general. Not introduced until after the marriage and fully used when Luthor became President. Lois being an Army Brat makes sense. But never a fan of her father as general with problems with Superman. Seems way too similar to General Thunderbolt Ross.

I have not been here in a long time. That I am here and enjoying the discussion says a lot. Saw it twice. I work early in morning but to first screening I could on Wednesday. Which meant average screen, I enjoyed it but movie felt small. Yesterday on Ulra Screen front row. I never do that but almost sold out. But was blown away this time. Obviously it has some flaws but what doesn’t? 2nd viewing you see a lot of layers in characterization and storyline you could never catch first.

Tomorrow I am driving an hour on my birthday to see it on closest IMAX. This movie is a gift. I was born in 1978. I have pictures of me as baby in Superman t shirt. This character means a lot to me. I can understand issues some may have but there is a lot of good stuff here. Feels like I have waited for this my whole life.

To more to come! 👍

Funny thing is that baby is definitely me. But my Mom who is very much alive does not know who that is holding me. Probably someone on my Dad’s side of the family.

Hard not to think of my Dad today. It would have been his 87 Birthday today. He was born in 1938! He would have loved this movie. He saw a certain movie in 2013 and did not care for it. For a decade drove me 8 hours to Metropolis, IL Superman Celebration. Not to mention countless he drove me to comic book shops.

I've see some posts online of some theatres still having the Legacy subtitle on their tickets, that's funny. I'm guessing they added the old title to their databases ages ago and just never updated it.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I like that they just gave a few paragraphs and sentences of text at the start of the film to set everything up and got right to it.

David Corenswet was great as both Superman and Clark Kent. To me it really felt like he was channeling aspects of Christopher Reeves version of Clark Kent, and it worked well in my opinion.

I also enjoy that overall it didn't take itself too seriously; but parts were serious enough to make you feel for the various characters and situations that arose.

I also enjoyed the Brightburn element of Kal El's Kryptonian parents sending him to conquer humanity and rebuild Krypton in a sense; but because the message was damaged, and Jonathan and Martha Kent were both good role models to the point that he misinterpreted the message and made his own choice to be a force for good.

And given everything he still wasn't a 100% Boy Scout, but just a good person trying to do the right thing and save any life wherever possible; but not getting overwrought if he was not able to do so. This is very much a practical Superman which is refreshing.

I also love the unexpected (for me), appearance of Supergirl at the end; which gave a wonderful explanation for why Krypto was a poorly trained occasional shit of a dog.
(Gotta wonder though if she travels to planets with red Suns so that she can party and get drunk; how did she get back 'home'? ;))

As I said doesn't take itself too seriously.

I also loved what they did with the characters of Mr Terrific and the Green Lantern Guy Gardner. (I really loved the fact that Mr terrific admitted the only reason he was going to save Superman was because it would piss Green Lantern off.)

I also found the recreation of the Hall of Justice facade from the original Hanna-Barbera 1973 version of The Super Friends Saturday morning cartoon series laugh out loud hilarious when I saw it.

I hope the film does well enough at the box office that DC decides to continue with James Gunn's version of the DC film universe.

I gave it an A on this poll.

I saw this with my wife and 22 year old son, and none of us have ever heard of this guy. On the way to the theater, we talked about “where did they find this guy?” We had no clue.

I think he was fantastic, and they agree. This guy did a terrific job with the two personalities, and in terms of inhabiting the physical character. The charm was there, the humility was there.

I think this guy did a terrific job.

The three of us have been talking about this movie all day. That’s probably a good sign.

I am so (read: even more) excited for Supergirl after this. :)

Anyone know why Gunn went with “LuthorCorp” instead of “LexCorp” here? Just feels like with this interpretation, LexCorp would have fitted better.
