Supergirl - Season Four

What I was saying is that first, the producers on SUPERGIRL cannot decide to kill Superman (which is what I was replying to originally). That's up to DC and whatever division controls overseeing all the characters.
Personally I wish we could just let Superman be. I mean he's a pretty iconic superhero and is it really necessary to tear that 'characterisation' apart to make another character look better? I don't understand what the point of that is. Supergirl either as a character or as show should not need to do that.

I agree but the show isn't that subtle, the same with how they handle their opinions on gun control etc.

I had a far different reaction reading dodge's unashamedly racist judgement of the Khalil character. I can only imagine what the Black Lightning season two thread will reveal.

That's enough! Warning for trolling. Comments to PM

Well, such a deconstruction of the character might prove an interesting exercise. However, nothing of the kind has happened on Supergirl, so no one really need worry about it.

Huh? Where is this coming from? The general consensus is that Supergirl has handled Superman quite well on those occasions where he's actually appeared, capturing his personality far more authentically than the recent movies have. The main complaint is that we don't see him often enough.

It’s how Superman should be done. Superman would be proud of his cousin growing into a hero who is possibly stronger and better than him because it helps more people. Superman’s manhood can’t be threatened because he’s completely secure in who he is and what he is, he’s a humble and kind person who happens to have the powers of a god. Honestly these complaints about Superman being weakened to benefit a woman says more about the person saying it than any actual issue with the show. Superman may not be insecure in his masculinity, but some of his fanboys seem to be. Strong women are a threat to them and they’re cowardly hiding behind Superman’s cape.

Captain Marvel is stronger than both of them put together... But is Mary Marvel also stronger than both of them put together as well?

Even if the Marvels' were not the Strongest of all, they are magical beings, and Magic is a loophole weakness of Kryptonians, that would make their superior strength irrelevant because Clark and Kara can both be floored by card tricks.

####!

Designated Survivor is on Hulu now, so Italia Ricci is not coming back.

Sad.

Right. If someone else is stronger than you, it doesn't mean you aren't still strong. Life is not a zero-sum game. That's the whole meaning of the House of El emblem in the Supergirl universe -- "Stronger Together." Superman is strong, Supergirl is strong, Superman + Supergirl is even stronger. Trying to define it as a competition between them is totally missing the point of both characters and what they stand for. They're not against each other, they're together against injustice.

What about Overgirl from Earth X?

Totally a competition, and someone, either Kara or Oliver, probably murdered Clark (and Lois).

Meh, someone up thread said they hoped Superman was killed, I just don't see why. I also don't think it's necessary to have Supergirl beat him, I mean why for that as well??

Yep. Really Captain Marvel is so strong the others are redundant.

Wisdom of Solomon aside, Captain Marvel is a nine year old boy.

There's three hours a day, when he's not asleep, that the boy is not transfixed by his Play Station.

I'm really excited about the trans character in the new season. It's nice to finally have a trans superhero, I wish I could have seen that when I was much younger, it might have saved me a lot of dark times. But hopefully she'll do that for a lot of other people.

Reminds me of the episode of Will and Grace when Will is lamenting how his younger boyfriend didn't have to go through the same trauma he did. The world IS changing despite the loud voices of those trying to prevent it from doing so.

I'm not sure it's currently becoming more tolerant or accepting, it feels as though we are regressing outside of certain bubbles of enlightenment, but I utterly applaud the makers of SG for including a trans character and working against that trend.

It's pretty hard to understand why we are still discussing THAT fight after all this time, we see countless superhero match ups down the years without the controversy, but the singular nature of this one is something people for some reason can't move past.

Will was saying he wished that the younger generations of gay men had more hardship to go though when coming out, that they get it too easy, and he's annoyed how easy they get it, compared to how the 1980s kicked his ass.

I got that, but my point is society is in many ways moving back towards that place where people are routinely stigmatised and abused for their sexuality (or in this case gender identity). That the media is making efforts to redress the balance is admirable but they're swimming against a much wider tide in society.

You'd think people would have grown out of the "boys are better than girls" stage by now.
I agree. I think that whole boys are better or girls are better play the same insecurity but use different players to 'prove' it. If one is good enough one can do that stand alone.
