The "new" scene with Lex tonight was actually a deleted scene from last year, that was included on the Blu-ray set. Interesting to repurpose it this way, though the original scene is longer, and really good. Too bad they couldn't include all of it.

SG/Kara: SG - Largely taking a backseat in this episode.
Rojas: More than meets the eye...
Her desire to save Russell/Rip Roar...eh...mmkay, but I was more interested in seeing just how much she played Lena for years, all in the service of the Leviathans. All Raiders and Friday the 13th: The Series' cursed object nods aside, she's essentially made a deal with a devil surrogate, with appropriately "magical" events working in her favor, such as her father's competitors having sudden, major technical failings. She's so in deep with the Leviathans, but it would be unrealistic for her not to have become accustomed to the power/access she's enjoyed since making that dark deal. One might argue that her making the decision for Russell to work for Leviathan was born of weakness/fear, but it was yet another sign of how opportunistic she is--including her present-day interactions with Lena.
Lena: The flashback contradicts her growth: no one becomes like Lena overnight, and despite the abuses of her family, to be this kind of person, she had to absorb a great deal from Lex and her mother. Moreover, her wanting to go to National only as a glorified PR move for her family is not the most ethical of decisions, backed up by her "I didn't come her to make friends" revelation to Kara. The writers tried to show how her assumed betrayal by Rojas was the reason for her earlier cold behavior, only to end up betrayed again when she let Kara and the others into her life....
...but that same, pre-Kara betrayal timeline is also filled with her eugenics experiments, and now she has the medallion, just as she wanted. What a heroine. How she faces off with the Leviathans, or of Rojas will go running back to her (to "help" her fight the group) is a possibility, but not as black and white as some are inclined to believe.
Leviathan agent: I do like how matter-of-fact and confident she is about her group's every move and threat. Like last season, the Big Bad comes off as a compelling adversary, but I hope this new threat does not completely lose its own reason to be / effectiveness as villains as in the CoL case.
NOTES: Steven Bauer...he still has trouble with accents after decades in the business.

Best episode so far in this uninspiring season. The various scattered plot threads start to come together, and we begin to get a sense of what Leviathan is. Very reminiscent of last year's (more successful) "Man of Steel" episode, tracing back through the show's history with flashbacks to give depth and context to characters and current events. Genuinely surprised by the reveal that Andrea was the shadow killer thingie. And good that they finally let McGrath escape that lab set and interact with some other characters.
So this was the Supergirl-light episode to free up Benoist for filming Crisis. Light on Alex, Brainy, and J'onn too. I'm not sure how necessary all the flashbacks were otherwise; a lot of it was stuff we already knew about Lena's past.
Also, the timing was odd. The flashback with Lex implied that Superman had only shown up about 5 years ago (Lex said "We've just made first contact"), but we know he was already active as Superman when Kara arrived on Earth 16 years ago. Also, it's hard to believe the Lex-Superman rivalry only lasted for one year before Lex was brought down.

Well, according to TVline's website, 861K watched the 5x06 with a demo unchanged of 0.2. A little better than last week which means that even with a limited presence of Kara/Supergirl, Alex and their Super friends, it is possible to get equivalent ratings than these last weeks.
I must admit to have expected the worst with an episode focused on Lena and Lena/Andrea. Anyway, tonight, I'm quite happy.

OK, this is still a rumor but "Katie McGrath's Lena Luthor may leave Supergirl towards the end of the current season but plans have yet to be set in stone, so she could stick around a bit longer". 
So, that means 2 things: 1) she survives to Crisis of Infinte Earths but who really doubted it 
and 2) I guess that writers will show her redeeming herself before she leaves the show.
I will miss Katie McGrath & Lena Luthor after this season... well, if there is a 6th season, of course but despite weak low ratings, I think that this will be the case. I just hope that US producers will be smart enough to offer her a tv show as lead actress because she has the potential.

we're up for another fake redemption after she's totally gone to the dark side, murdered the young Jedi, and shown her true colours. I bet she's going to be working for Leviathan first, to make the redemption even bigger. Wow. So clever.
And yeah, I know worse people can redeem themselves – say, Andrea – but with the way she's basically head-on double-crossing everybody, and playing the evil genius, there's no way they can sneak in a “redemption” in there this season without screwing it up badly. She's not even close to done bulldozing over the people she believes have failed her, and with some (i.e. Kara) the severity of that has been dubious from the start. She's basically pissed Kara didn't come out to her with her extremely personal and life-threatening truth about her identity, while she herself has been hiding literally everything shady she's been up to from day 1, and lying about it? Oh, go and cry me a river.
She's pissed at Andrea's betrayal, and taking it out on Kara who acted did nothing more than act in a way normal for us regular humans. To reach anything resembling redemption, she has to be done bulldozing, get caught, have it backfire, lose Kara over what is an actual betrayal, find the time to feel sorry about it and look for forgiveness, and then get it. And it will have to include the work she did previous seasons, because she has not been redeemed for any of that. That's like, four more seasons with the current pace, and I predict a complete a complete hatched job if Lena is “redeemed” soon. (Well, unless she literally stops on her own immediately and pushes full reverse, which will be totally anticlimactic).
At this point, Lena has more potential for a villain than Leviathan, cause she's actually frightening. What a steaming pile of horse dung that does to her character, however, so you both walking it back or going ahead with it are going to be pretty gnarly.
The good thing? We probably got more human moments showing the origins of Kara and Lena's friendship than the actual show did when that friendship was growing.
I wonder how long it will be before Supergirl and Alex notice that Lena never filed a police report on her attack.
Once they do notice, I wonder who confronts Lena first, Alex for endangering the DEO and aiding/abetting the escape of a felonious supervillian or Supergirl for endangering Alex.

That's the point: despite some trying to ignore the development of this character over the course of two seasons, Lena is corrupt: human experimentation, consciously believing in / practicing eugenics, and now her backstory of wanting to obtain the medallion. That's more than trying to stop Lex, but a lifelong desire for control over humanity. This is not a case of a wayward teen who falls in the wrong crowd--she is a wrong crowd all on her own.
...and jettisoning her natural development all to have a grins 'n' hugs moment with Kara does not serve the character, or the series overall. Its a waste to build up so much only to have what might end up being a completely unrealistic turnaround of a personality that was not an act, or a case of being misguided.

If you're going to bring good versions from destroyed Earths, why not go for a swapped Lex? A good Lex might even steer Lena into some self-reflection that might, just might, help her see if not go an actual path for redemption. I guess it wouldn't work, as Lex is manipulative enough that nobody would buy a good Lex, unless he literally dies in Crisis.
Alexander Luthor of Earth 3, from the original Crisis, is the hero who fights the Crime Syndicate (The Miror universe Justice league) so things could get weird.
Yes, its a monumental cock up... But in Man of Steel, the post crisis reboot, circa 1986, Clark walked the Earth for 10 years, pretending to be wind, that would save the day at the last possible second, averting catastrophe, until he got caught on film and his mommy sewed him some fancy pants.
If we go by Man of Steel the movie, even if the Arrowverse ship is so much smaller, although the suit in a resting state could just be a handful of nanites, then the super suit was a Kryptonian artifact, more so than Martha's arts and crafts, which means that it's alien combat tech and probably designed for flight.

Honestly, I said nearly exactly the same thing about young Alex and Young Kara last year and nothing came of nothing.
Indeed, this episode with both young Kara and Lena at Midvale was refreshing and actresses fulfilled the function (as well mentally as physically ). Maybe one of the best episodes of Supergirl for me. Maybe grown-up Lena and Andrea deserved the same, the time of an episode...
That, and knowing he's a Lex from another world, she would "rationalize" that he's not from her reality, or the conditions she was born into / endured throughout her life--which includes her interest in evil-infused medallions, eugenics hallmarks such as creating super soldiers, "correcting" human personalities/traits, etc. She--as the expression goes--"is who she is" and that's not some good hearted "pal" to anyone.
Unless it's Lena Luther from Earth X.

SG/Kara: SG - Well, Naïve-Girl-so desperate for a pal--just opens the Fortress door to one of the most consistently corrupt people in her world.
Lena's "We're miles beyond those boys with their sticks and stones, " and SG's "Yes, we are" is one of many reasons why SG is rather thick. Her assumptions (a crack at men) has served her in what way--other than making said assumptions a means for her to be exploited? She even bought the lie that Lena was not armed with a Kryptonite ring, because there just no way her pal would ever arm herself against her...

Lena: Perfectly playing SG like a fiddle...essentially on a stage singing, "oh, Superman destroyed all of the weapons that threatened him. Oh...he didn't get rid of them? My, oh my, perhaps we can use this to fight the Leviathans!" Yeeaahh...
Aww. The love light in Lena's eyes when she spotted Myriad. Clearly, her blubbering confession that she's using SG is a ploy inside of another to set up / throw her off of the project.
Leviathans: Rama Khan's alien force wanting to "protect" earth from its natural inhabitants...sounds like yet another reason some of last season's larger arguments cannot be dismissed out of hand.
J'onn: Ever the most boring part of any Supergirl episode in recent seasons. The constant family drama is little more than a placeholder to give him something to do. In this case, rescuing his brother in time to (possibly) expose Lena's evil schemes, but that will serve its purpose, then its back to his grumbling.
NOTES: Supergirl must have a hole in her head where all common sense just sprayed into the air if she cannot see where Lena--with her history--would do with any Kryptonian (or Lex-created anti-Kryptonian weapon). She was more concerned with tears and pleas rather than thinking Lena is about to do something worse than Lex ever imagined.
