Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

I mean you KNOW the episode is going to be contrived when Mon-El is the smart one in it. ;)

You know, I think they did a good job justifying why he was the suspicious one. The others were blinded by their desire to have the kind and loving man they knew restored to them, but Mon-El hated his father, so it was natural for him to be suspicious of a father figure. In another context, his daddy issues might have led him astray, but this time, luckily, they aligned with the truth.

The suspicion was so heavy-handed that I cosidered the possibility that it could have been a misdirection.

Yeah, the setup was not particularly well done.
There was really no need to have everyone be so trustful of Jeremiah. Especially giving him DEO clearances. Since he ended up hacking his way into the mainframe anyway it was completely unnecessary. They could have just had him kept at the DEO for observation, or he could have used "just visiting his daughters at work" excuse and then done the thing...

Has she saved a school bus on a suspension bridge yet?

Yes, kind of, in the earthquake episode, though I believe it wasn't a suspension bridge but a collapsed highway overpass. :techman:

Given what ended up happening with Jeremiah and his true allegiance(s), his and Eliza's conversation takes on a whole new meaning and tone, leading me to wonder if she too suspected something was 'off' about him

I don't think she did, her reaction was very understandable, and I love Helen Salter, but she's not an actress that does nuance or, you know, acting in general very well...

How the heck did the medical exam miss that?

Apparently the same people were on call that managed to miss Parasite ;)

Should we be putting "Mon-El" in quotes at this point?

The people who are looking for him also called him Mon-El of Daxam, so it is his real name.

I'm also suspicious of Winn's girlfriend...it seems like there's a shoe waiting to drop there.

I doubt it, Winn can't have that much bad luck with the ladies...

Some minor nipticks:
Bit of a time discrepancy, Kara recently celebrated her 13th Earth birthday, but Jeremiah has been stated to have been with Cadmus for 14 and even 15 years in this episode...

Personal pet peeve, shooting monitors to destroy a computer... will baddies never learn?

true, but you would think CADMUS agents would either be armed with weapons that could do something (synthetic Kryptonite bullets - since they already established CADMUS doesn't have access to the real stuff -- Red Sun lasers ;) or something.) When they pulled out the AK-47's and Supergirl just flew on in I was like <yawn>.

Well, we know it will happen again (in many future episodes with regular bad guys), but in this case, they (the Cadmii with the guns) WANTED Daddy to be rescued and brought back to the DEO.

James Olsen was missing in action this week. Mon-El has taken his "Kara, I'm going to say something sensible that you won't like" space.

I'm surprised by how much Jimmy's been sidelined considering that they went to the trouble of giving him a hero ID. He's starting to feel like an occasional guest character.

How telling is it that I didn't notice his absence until you pointed it out?
Nothing against the actor, but to me he feels sidelined even when he's in the damned scene.
Who knows, once Mon-El's "Liar Revealed" arc is done and they pack him off the the phantom zone (figuratively speaking) they'll figure out something interesting to do with Jimmy...but I doubt it.

And our big green oreo eating friend gets another beating. Behold the Martian Punchbagger. Guess they are staying true to the Justice League comics where his is a jobber to show how bad ass the villain of the week is.

Hope the Kara/Mon El relationship stays for the next few episodes the 2 actors have good chemistry together. There was very little chemistry between Melissa and Mehcad in the scenes they did together. I hope that romance is sidelined indefinitely.

It'd be nice to see Maggie get to do her job. Her role is getting a little one bit being "the relationship".

I'm loving the relationship, but yeah it would be great if she got more to do outside of it.
Supposedly it's coming, while the A team goes off singing with Flash, the B team will get to play that week...

Look, Mon-El is exposed, Mon-El is banished from the warmth of Kara & Friends, Mon-El (probably) makes an unconvincing feint at joinin' up with the Luthors, Mon-El Doubles Down And Risks Everything For The Cause in the big action-packed(-ish) Season Finale.

The "ultimateness" of Mon-El's sacrifice is ambiguous at season's close.

Many cries on FB that the show is Ruined Forever.

Where is "Mon-El is Cryogenically preserved to save his life (and set up for the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century crossover event that is the Season 3 premiere...")? ;)

The problem, I think, is that without Cat Grant, CatCo doesn't work as a story engine anymore. CatCo was an interesting setting in the first season for a couple of reasons -- it was where Kara was a civilian, she had a strong relationship with Cat, and it was a workplace drama with lots of people for Kara to interact with. They have tried to rejigger CatCo with Cat's absence, but there aren't as many people for Kara to interact with, and it feels (to me) that the focus of the series has shifted over to the DEO and its activities, especially with Winn moving there and the addition of Mon-El to the group. (To say nothing of their new headquarters.) James, unfortunately, is the character most tied to CatCo, and I feel that making James the Guardian was an attempt to shift James out of his CatCo role into one that better aligned with the way the series developed -- specifically where Kara was -- post-Cat.

I wouldn't be surprised if, in season 3, James and CatCo disappear entirely.

^ Yeah, I was starting to notice that about CatCo. Now they have Kara reporting to work at the DEO in her civvies...the former is really becoming redundant as a regular setting.

Right - no way to even try to hide the identity that way, at least when it comes to literally *anyone* on the DEO / that knows Alex.

They gave Winn an alien girlfriend and now we have seen Cadmus is going to round up and get rid of the aliens. I see her death on the horizon, fueling a hatred of Cadmus within Winn.
