Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Kara and James' relationship? A bit dull and done no favours by that annoying love triangle with Lucy, but man would it be nice for her to be in a relationship with someone who actually respects her.

Its more important for the showrunners to cater to the audience who want to see the network standard (Merto-El/badbod with a heart of gold), instead of the paring of two characters who came together not because they fit a casting stereotype, but due to two people growing on each other (in part) as a natural outgrowth of their need to rise above the "place" they had to occupy. That was clear in season one.

James being pushed into the CatCo CEO/Guardian roles seemed out of character, but that's at least better than not seeing the character at all.

He has no connection to the rest of the characters. If it was not for Supergirl's jealousy of the Guardian / desire to unmask him, James would be less than a passing reference.

Kara becoming a reporter felt like an unflattering rip-off of Superman, like they couldn't even think of any other job she could do, but the show doesn't even commit to it, she just slaps down a pile of paper in front of Snapper every few episodes and that's it.

Just one of the many ways the series had to borrow from Superman's history. The series writers appear to lack the ability to write for more than one setting, so Kara was largely dumped to the DEO, but left the Catco plot thread in place, when t was clear they were not seriously exploring her life as a reporter.

The show's plot has always been a dumb mess but the characters/acting made up for it. It just doesn't feel like enough any more.

Interesting observation.

If they were to get rid of James...since he's such a major figure in the Superman mythos, I suspect they'd just have him move back to Metropolis rather than kill him.

...which would make his original, defining story of wanting to emerge from the shadow of Superman / Metropolis completely pointless. Either way, the James character loses.

As for his frequency...he still appears more often than McGee did in TIH.

He should appear with a greater frequency, but its next to nothing. The difference with McGee is that The Incredible Hulk was a Man (and beast) on the Run series, so realistically, the series followed the always-moving Banner, while McGee--as a reporter--could not appear often, and would not, as his Register duties meant he was not free to always be on the road. In fact, the problem of the Register's budget / not wanting to pay for his trips was a fairly common subplot. Supergirl does not have that issue, as everything takes place in one city, yet one of the major characters and locations is pushed to the edge of being utterly irrelevant.

So, in the case of this week' episode, a guy who is often clueless suddenly becomes The World's Greatest Detective / Mind Reader, just so he will be "right."
LOL, anyone with an IQ over 60 could see that Jeremiah was up to something. That's why it made all of the other characters look particularly idiotic.

You know how we think that Mon-El's big secret is that he is the Prince of Daxam?

Seriously? That's not so much the deal breaker Jerry was making it out to be, unless he's somehow responsible for the destruction of Daxam and Krypton too...

What if he's her cousin?

HIS NAME!!!!!

THEY HAVE THE SAME DAMN SURNAME!!!!!!!

Well originally, Clark gave him the name because he thought he found a long lost brother..... on a MONday....

Oh look another Nuke Bomb plot in a DCEU TV shows, I swear they are slowly turning into 24 :lol:Hell they even referenced the show.

I know it's just me...but a couple things bothered me with Kara's new sex life.

1) She's not on birth control, right? As least forher first 12 years or so on earth,it's not like she a real doctor or anything , right? And even if she was prescribed something , it might not work due to her being an alien. So theoretically,s he could have gotten pregnant by Mon-El.... or with Mon-El being a player (at least formerly), he might have some dormant STD's that could show up.

2) and the beginning of their "dating" is sex? I know it's 2017...but both my daughter & I were disappointed. And their dating being announced in the DEO? (Funny joke though about reporting to HR) - Umm, so everyone knows Kara is Supergirl? They good a plot where DEO members are kidnapped to find out Supergirl's ID.

With Jimmy Olsen....the absence is fine in that he is actually doing his job as a Catco Executive in charge.

As for relationships...I still prefer Winn and Kara. I mean, Winn became friends with her when she was a "nobody", and liked her for her.

Jimmy likes her, partly for her, but also he's there as a favor for Clark too.

I really hope it wasn't racism that killed the relationship, but rather what I see as it being forced in there.

What's the phantom Zone like in the Earh-SG universe? That seems the logical way to get rid of Mon=El, yet bring him out when needed (or other than the Legion... which would be nice to introduce

And , oh yeah, agree with everyone how crazy dumb it was to let Jeremiah back in with no supervision/ debriefing /etc.

There's this thing called "condoms". Oh, and why are you putting all the blame on her? It takes two to tango.

A) I am assuming Kara is a virgin, and new to all of this stuff.
B) While Mon-El has grown in becoming more responsible, in matters of sex, I doubt Mr.Intergalactic playboy is much into that. And I am not sure how birth control works on Daxam.
C) When you're horny, you don't always think straight. Like telling someone who's had 5 beers already "Be responsible in your drinking, and don't drive drunk".

You're basically saying that if she get's pregnant "boys will be boys", but "she should have been more careful".

On that note, I was wondering what would happen if Melissa Benoist ever got pregant.

They've known eachother for a while.

Jimmy likes her, partly for her, but also he's there as a favor for Clark too.

From what I've heard, the show runners didn't want to put Jimmy and Kara together, at least not right away, but CBS asked for it. I guess with the change to the CW, they had the opportunity to go in another direction.

I think she was. There's been a lot of discussion about how Supergirl can't have sex with an earthling because of the physical damage she'd cause and it was interesting how the episode handled that very issue... She broke 4 guys' noses when she tried to kiss them. ;)

It's never been said that CBS pushed for the Kara/James relationship. All that's been said is that the writers felt like it was something that the show needed in Season 1, only to realize that it wasn't in fact something that the show needed after Season 1 had wrapped and they'd been greenlit for Season 2.

Shades of Larry Niven's "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" essay. Niven's thesis -- Superman can't have sex with Lois Lane (or Lana Lang, or Lori Lemaris...) without killing her -- would apply to Supergirl and Mon-El as well. And while Mon-El and Kara could boink like bunnies without hurting each other, I suspect that Sojourner's suggestion of condoms would work against Mon-El's super-powered sperm.

FWIW, the comics have generally ignored the ideas in "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex." Lois and Clark, from all indications, have a happy sex life, as far back as at least their engagement in 1990.

Both Kara and Clark can traditionally 'modulate' their own strength levels (which would allow for Clark, a Kryptonian, to have sex with Lois, a human, without danger), but a human man wouldn't be able to penetrate Kara's body without suffering damage to his own body because of the density of her body tissue relative to that of a human's.

Would any traditional birth control methods even work on a Daxamite or a Kryptonian (while they are exposed to a yellow star)?

Not that argument again.

Kryptonians (and Daxamites, as relevant this time around) are aliens, just because they look human doesn't mean they are, and since they are also a fictional species, their biology is really just what the people in charge of the series want it to be. They could be rubbing their knees against each other as their form of sex (and since it happens off-screen, they might as well do) and it wouldn't violate any rules. Same goes for birth control or STDs.

They're shown to have a sex life, they obviously have a sex. That simple.
