Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Superman's yen is not to be a reporter.

Clark needed to be at a communication hub to monitor danger.

It was a pragmatic choice.

(PreCrisis mostly,) I think he really-really wanted to be a sculptor.

I think certain authors have altered that a bit and gone with the idea that reporting is also his way to stay connected with humanity and help keep things in perspective. Shockingly, we actually saw a little glimmer of this in BvS.
But yeah, I don't think it's ever been his calling so much as a role he's grown into and come to value apart from it's practical advantages to is activities as Superman.

It's not surprising they'd go with this for Kara too since it's one of only a few professions that allows for such wide ranging interactions with people on the ground *and* and credible excuse for being found hanging around near crime scenes that doesn't also involve having a law degree, medical training or a badge. Plus all of those things usually involve very long hours.

There's a reason why Marvel has like five superheroes who are also Private Investigators.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy Kreisberg's cop-out excuse that James/Kara was something they had 'foisted' on them by CBS 'higher-ups'; it rings incredibly hollow and smacks of trying to make excuses and avoid taking responsibility for their own decisions.

I could accept them changing their minds about the romance in between seasons but trying to run away from that instead of owning it just rubs me wrong as a writer.

Its easy to blame the network that booted their series, so Kreisberg, et al., can escape the charge of axing an interracial romance, and still grip the flag of being a progressive series.

As noted in season one, here's one of the lighter examples (but revealing in any case) of the reaction to James just walking to Kara's door, then the kiss from "Worlds Finest." Click to 12:22 in this review video--

It matters not who viewers want Kara to love, but this one reaction is a sample of the kind of hostility aimed at the James character. I seriously doubt its all about a desire to see Kara with their idea geek character. To be clear, there are other videos and posts, but I will not repost them here, as they are offensive beyond belief. DigificWriter, the SG PTB seem to be very aware of their fanbase--including this loud, hard-line group, and responded to the Olympian sized hatred of black James having (their dreaded) romance (particularly if sex was expected) with white Kara.

This is not new to TV (in fact, in social media, you see the same "outage" about the leads of the Fox series Rosewood), and it says much about modern media that just about all other social subjects are represented and encouraged, but the one still generating such revulsion is race.

It looks like we will have a crisis in our hands

Not even close

You missed the point.

"The CW has put together a season 2 trailer that is a little under two minutes long. You'll get to see some scenes from upcoming episodes including an ICONIC shot that calls back to a crisis event from the comics!"

After seeing what they did with Flashpoint, I'm not holding my breath. The way they burn through iconic storylines and concepts and then vomit them up like whatever that Flashpoint story was supposed to be is just... ugh.

Yeah -- this is probably just an homage to the comics panel without the same context, like the homage to the "Flash of Two Worlds" cover on The Flash last season.

Anyway, the future newspaper in season 1 of The Flash established that the "Crisis" doesn't occur until 2024. And with all the timeline changes going on lately, we can't be sure that will even happen.

Nope.

Your original post implied a Crisis level event was happening. The trailer shows nothing of the sort, and only shows a homage to the cover of a comic I bought in the mid 80's.

My original post had 2 image links that compared a shot from the trailer…

…with the Crisis on Infinite Earths cover, one of (if not) the most iconic Superman & Supergirl covers ever …

…and had a wordplay connecting the two, just like the article I posted later…

Anything else you thought was implied was a conjecture/misunderstanding from your part.

Some cute phoos of Supergirl and the Supermen.

The movies should cast a woman to play Power Girl. Alice Eve gets my vote.

Also Kate Mara. I think she'd make a great Power Girl. Fan4stick wasted her in the role of Sue Storm.

Honestly, I really want a Power Girl and Huntress movie.

And all I want is a Tyler Hoechlin Superman TV series!

.
It was Supergirl's season premiere Monday and all people can talk about is Superman. A Superman tv show would completely supplant Supergirl's role and what they want to accomplish with her. Remember how SG ended with CBS. It's not like TPTB wanted to renew the show there.

Also there's SG's penchant for taking characters, stories, references and attributes from Superman's mythos and applying them to Kara. As well other characters and stories that aren't directly affiliated with Superman or Supergirl (like Arrow does with other DC IPs) in order to make episodes. There really wouldn't be much room for a unique Superman show. I imagine we'd get something akin to Smallville 2.0. Given Hoechlin's big Teen Wolf fan base and it being on the CW.

Another reason it's a good fit for a superhero just occurred to me, it's a good excuse for why they're always leaving when a crisis happens. They can just say they need to go out to cover the crisis in person, and then just run off without anybody giving it a second thought.
