Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

Can we name check the lineup on that cover? Who's that behind Superman, Barda? And behind J'onn? Beside Darkseid? Don't recognize him. The dude behind GL I think is High Father's son, but am not certain.

Left to right: Forager, Martian Manhunter, Starfire, Superman, Darkseid, Lightray, Batman, John Stewart, Orion. Forager is a member of the insectoid community that exists below the New Gods on New Genesis, basically a commoner who earned the respect of the elites. Lightray is the big celebrity hero of New Genesis, but I gather he's kind of a jerk. Orion is actually Darkseid's son, who was raised by Highfather as part of an exchange meant to keep the peace between the two sides (Darkseid got Scott Free, Mr. Miracle, in exchange).

I loved Cosmic Odyssey. I think it was the first Fourth World story I ever read. John Stewart's actions here had repercussions on the character for years afterward.

Thank you! :) Didn't the Justice League animated series suggest that Dasaad was part of that exchange (that he was from New Genesis), or was it simply that he was jealous of Orion being DS' favored son? It's been a while since I've watched the show.

I really should take the time a give it a rewatch.

Darkseid on Young Justice was was awful, because the show got cancelled 20 seconds later. 2 years of set up about New Gods, and wham! Gone.

^ He'll do. He does look the part. And as I suspected, they got a younger guy who could go the distance if need be.

It's nice to finally put a face to Superman.

I wonder how he'll compare to Cavill.

Still, it's weird -- we know that Superman was an adult when Kara first arrived at age 12, but Hoechlin is only a year older than Benoist. It's not like a 35-year-old would've been decrepit and doddering. And it would've been a good contrast to see a Superman who had a bit more maturity than Kara, the seasoned veteran next to the sophomore hero.

And thank you, Wikipedia, for giving the pronunciation of his name. It sounds like "Hecklin."

Yeah, I was expecting somebody older than that too. I did like Hoechlin in Teen Wolf, so I'm sure he'll be good here too. I wonder if we'll get a unique design for Superman's suit?

I hope for something a bit like Kara's but less homemade and full color S Shield, but all in all traditional.

^ Can't wait for the pics to come out in a few weeks or months.

I've been reading several articles about the casting and in every comments section, someone is disappointed that it wasn't Welling. Seems like he was a big favorite.

A few fun facts about Hoechlin...
  • He'll be in Vancouver filming the two 50 Shades sequels.
  • The IMDb lists him as 6 feet tall. He'll be smaller than Jimmy Olsen. Mehcad Brooks is 6'4.

He seems a bit young for the role, but that can easily be explained away by the effects of Earth's yellow sun. I've never seen him in anything so I'll reserve judgment until I see him in action.

Well, you can do a lot with camera angles or lift platforms to fudge actors' relative heights.

Let's see, 6'0" is the same height as live-action Superboy stars John Haymes-Newton and Gerard Christopher, and a fraction taller than Dean Cain. Kirk Alyn and George Reeves were 6'1", as is Henry Cavill. Brandon Routh and Tom Welling are nearly 6'3" (which is Superman's canonical height), and Christopher Reeve stood at 6'4".

I'm more concerned with his ability to convey maturity and experience in his performance than with how young he looks.

I remember him from 7th Heaven. I don't have a strong opinion on his acting but he did seem to be a bit frenetic.

I can't believe they hired him. It completely ruins my opinion of the show. He is nothing like MY version of Superman and I now profess my hatred and contempt for the program and entire Berlantiverse---I will keep watching though just so I can return to these boards and tell you how much I hate it.

LOL. I think you summed up the mindset of anyone who was only going to except Tom Welling.

I had previously stated by hope from Brandon Routh but I never had any serious expectations it would happen.

My only concern with this choice is his age. Not for appearance, Superman should look ageless, but in the performance. Given how tall Mehcad Brooks is, it was inevitable that whomever they cast would be shorter. When Jimmy first met Superman he would have been much younger. It would be nice to see flashbacks with another actor as a younger Jimmy.

I wonder if we'll get a unique design for Superman's suit?

Part of me doesn't care what suit they put him in but I know he'll be in it 50% of the time.

I'm not against a smaller budget Synder version or a male version of Benoist's suit
