Well it's not a lack of yellow, so much as it has just a thin outline around the whole glyph instead of just in the negative space. Personally, I think it looks better this way.
The classic design works on the page and is very practical when you have limited panel space, but I always thought the yellow background/negative space looked a bit too loud in live-action portrayals. They tried to mute it a little in the Singer movie, but just ended up pushing it towards a sickly mustard sort of colour. The funny texture didn't help much either, but that's a whole other thing.
There's also something that happens if they don't light the chest just so, that the red and yellow sort of smudge into each other. Again, not a concern for inked pages, but a real headache for live action.
