Spoilers Supergirl - Season 1

I suppose I might have heard something about tug boats.

Even just untying the moorings and letting the boat drift away VERY slowly had to probably cause less harm than waiting for the boat to explode?

Superbreath requires drawing a lot of surplus pressurized air into her lungs, so since she can't draw in more "air" into her bottom, it's unlikely that a superfart wouldn't be anymore gale-like than a human fart... Or was I the only one thinking about a ninty foot blue flame?

Another example of a superhero show that tried to be more mainstream initially: Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman started out emphasizing the romantic-comedy and journalism side of things and kept the Superman scenes relatively brief, with Dean Cain spending most of his time as Clark. There was at least one episode where he only appeared as Superman in the teaser and was Clark for the rest of the episode. (Not only that, but they initially considered doing a version where Clark never appeared onscreen as Superman at all.) But in season 2, the show got a new writing/producing staff that played up the action more and had Cain spend considerably more time per episode as Superman, though still not as much time as he spent as Clark.

-Supergirl should have pushed the ship from the back, or use the freeze breath to create an ice sheet that she could drop on the fire, causing it to evaporate and become rain that puts the fire out. Unfortunately, of course, she didn't know about that power yet.

Well yeah, but that was clearly a way of showing her being "clumsy and awkward" in saving the day early on, and not really being experienced enough yet.

And who knows, with the force she was exerting on the ship, she might have simply crumpled up the rear of the ship and caused it to leak from there instead.

Unfortunately, you're right.

Hold on! That's not automatically right!

If she exerted that kind of force on the rear of an unmoored ship the most likely outcome is it would move forward really fast, cause the thing is designed to move forward by applying force aft. The problem here was that she tried to apply motive force in a direction the ship can't easily travel in without help. That caused the resistance and the crumpling.

I had the same thought last night. "Why are you pulling the boat instead of pushing it?" I think that would have been easier for her to accomplish, to say nothing of causing less damage.

Well, the point of the scene was that she didn't know how to deal with the situation because she was new at this. She's only been using her powers openly for about a week.

A lot of talk of Superman this week and next week, it looks like it'll be Superman to the rescue.

Also, did Cat and James know each other at the Daily Planet?

Different Generation's both working for Perry.

Cat has two decades on James.

Perry probably has another 2 or three on Cat.

Exactly. The comments on this thread amusingly mirror those made by the TV talking heads in this week's episode.

I thought the scene of Kara rescuing "Fluffy" was an homage to the scene in the first Donnor movie, til we learned that Fluffy was a snake.

Smallville had flaws, including a few huge ones like its almost hatred of comic book elements for over half its run,

Plus the first session had all those great homoerotic undertones, all it was missing was a scene where Clark and Lex has to oil each other up to defeat the monster of the week - shame they backed away from that.

Confirmation that Supergirl has the power to cross between universes!

But seriously, I wonder how that happened, her actually being there in costume. Were both shows filming on adjacent locations on the same day? Or did she actually just show up on the SHIELD set in full costume from her own show just so she could photobomb them?

Are we sure Melissa is on the SHIELD set? I could totally see Clark and Chloe going over to her set.

^Well, it's clearly a location shoot -- I was using "set" in the figurative sense. But that looks like one of the SUVs used by SHIELD on the show, suggesting that it's their shoot.

Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in, where a woman dressed up as a DC character can visit a Marvel set and the internet thinks it's awesome?

I get hung up on the physics of how Superpeople fly sometimes. When she was pulling on the ship, and straining so hard - what was she straining against? I mean, what force is she exerting, to make herself move backwards in mid-air, and how is that force amplified to move a 1,000-ton vessel? What are her muscles straining against? When you pull something, your feet planted on the ground give your force a solid foundation. What was hers in that scene?

And for some reason it doesn't bother me that she and Supes can LIFT airliners while in flight, but it does bother me when they apply lateral force in flight.

I've always liked John Byrne's concept that Supes' super strength is actually telekinesis, but he has to touch the object for it to work.
