Superbowl: watch it or not?

Did you watch the Superbowl?

  • I'm a female and my husband made me watch it/monopolized the TV.

Anyway, it doesn't seem to be possible to fix that title in a way that reflects in the forum listing. Must be because of the poll somehow.
Did you try double-clicking next to the thread title on the forum index?
That did the trick. Thanks. :bolian:

I say keep it as it is. It's become an artistic statement in its own right. :bolian:
Oops, too late. :alienblush:

I don't watch the Super Bowl, I watch Puppy Bowl!
I actually watched that for a few minutes. Animal Planet is next to Sciffy on my system and I pushed the wrong buttons.

Male, bored to teas by Sports.

Earl Grey, hot?
And cookies. Did I mention cookies?

I'm a female fan and I watched it. It's really mind Blowing!

I'm an Englishman. The BBC aired it and made a big deal about it. Like most people I know I tuned in out of sheer curiosity and was duly baffled by what I saw. The BBC doesn't allow ad breaks so what seemed like every 5 minutes they went to some pundits talking about the previous 5 minutes. I watched for a bit then went to bed. So in answer to the orginal post, yes, yes I did.

If you watch a few games, it starts to get interesting. The jargon is problem when you haven't grown up with the lingo. Back when I used to do night shifts, I often caught US baseball or football games on late night Channel 5. Even having played a little Madden back in the day on my Sega Mega Drive, football was still basically confusing. But once you immerse yourself in it a bit, it gets good. ;)

Same with watching most sports, I think. Think about this; when the Olympics come round, people suddenly learn the intricacies of scoring diving competitions and other obscure sports. Same thing really; watch enough of it and you see the skill/tactics involved.

^ It's quite odd but it actually reminded me more of cricket than rugby as it seems more tactical and played at a slower tempo. I can imagine myself enjoying the odd game if it were televised more often.

I don't think anything could replace the premier League though, I love United.

I voted the first option, but I am not really a fan of any sports so much. I do watch the superbowl because ussually theres nothing else to do or nothing else on and it's fun to go to a party. In reality, I don't give a shit about sports at all.

The girl I'm into is from Wisconsin and hence a huge Packers fan, so to be (kinda) close we watched it together, via Skype... her in America, me over here in England.

I know, I know, there's a whole thread buried in there, but let's move on shall we? ;)

I've never watched a game before, but I think I picked the game up pretty quickly and overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. The closest I've been to watching a game of AF is watching an episode of Friday Night Lights. Clearly, having someone to cheer on and support was an important factor in this (and being nervous and delighted on behalf of someone else too) but I rather enjoyed the strategy of the game and overall the BBC commentators were enthused, knowlegable and pretty entertaining in their own right.

I'm going to attempt to follow the next season I think (somehow). Given I've never had any passion for Soccer, or Rugby, or Cricket it'd be nice to have a sport to watch.

The SB was a worthy loss of sleep for me, but if you're not supporting either team I can see how it might not be an attractive proposition.

Hugo - got teased endlessly by my workmates who are all ardent Soccer fans...

Re: Super Bowl: watch it or not?

So I wasn't the only one who noticed that. Now, I'm noticing something else, based on my poll -- could it be nerdy women don't enjoy sports?

My wife has a PhD in biomedical engineering, hence she's nerdy. And she's a bat shit crazy football fan. She screams at the television after a bad play loud enough to scare the dog. So you're a bit off there.

I love the Puppy Bowl. And that dog on the ground should be flagged for illegal use of the paws.

I watched ten minutes on the BBC, during which eleven seconds of play occurred. Every time something happened the game would stop, the officials would talk for a while, then it would start again. At one point they apparently put the game back three seconds. God I thought cricket was slow.

As a born and raised Packer backer, this was the only Super Bowl I cared about in recent years to watch. I watched all the others, though, just because I love football.
