Why should they? Does it help the story? Much as we love him, he's not exactly a huge charcter in this movie.

*MY* question would be whether or not they'd eventually give him an uber-cool redesigned Excelsior in this new continuity.

Why? Just because the actor is gay? Whether he is or isn't is irrelivant. That's why they call it acting.
