Stuff you simply LOVED...

1.) Uhura's Roommate...

2.) Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike. Damn, he's good... Admiral Pike needs to get another ship and continue exploring the universe.

3.) Seeing the film for a third time earlier today. Suck on that for a while, bitches... :p

4.) Seeing the film in IMAX for the second time today.

5.) George Kirk spending his final moments multitasking by fighting to save his crew, consoling his wife and naming his son all at once. Jimmy comes from damn good stock.

I'm amazed some of the early reviewers found the score underwhelming. It's got numerous memorable hooks, and they've all been stuck in my head since this past weekend.

I loved?
-Anytime McCoy was on screen.. Karl did an amazing job. I was really worried about him, but he was Bones.
-McCoy's first scene, that was great
-Sulu leaving the parking break on
-Original! Spock with New! Spock at the end, I love it because Leonard was there, but it did make me sad since that will most likely be the last we ever see him in that role :(
-The scene with Chekov trying to give his authorization code
-Nero's "Hi Christopher, I'm Nero."
-Uhura.
-I mentioned McCoy right?
-Spock and Kirk's scene when Spock comes back to the bridge to approve of Chekov's plan
-McCoy's You're 17? comment to Chekov
-I loved the space scene shots, the way they filmed the ships was different, I really liked it
-Kirk's 'Bones!' toward the end of the film when he hopped down the stairs, sounded just like Shatner

-The scene with Chekov trying to give his authorization code

I liked that scene too. Actually I was amazed by how well all of the jokes played - usually I get annoyed when jokes play on for too long, but these were all just there long enough to be funny and no more.

Yes, I agree. Sometimes they can beat a joke to death. But in that case it was just perfect, almost like it happens to him everyday, and you could see his frustration but still humorous enough that we remember Walter's accent too.

Totally off topic but, WHAT AN ICON!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :bolian:

Thank you kindly! I thought about stalking you through the BBS for extra looks at yours, but figured I should probably make my own ;)

I agree. For the sequel he can tone down the accent just a tad, but it worked perfectly here.

Something I loved that I haven't seen exactly: the opening spin-out/zoom-out on the Kelvin, and the way it seemed to make the "ping" that the lights under the viewer on TOS made.

Also, the way Vulcan school was depicted. Very logical. Jacob Kogan did a good job as young Spock.

I think you both have wonderful icons ;) I can't add one yet.. hopefully soon!

C'mon, girls! Let's start a Mc Coy love chain! :adore:

There was nothing in the movie that I didn't absolutely love, but off the top of my head after only one screening on the Imax, here are a few:

"Either they're going down, or we are..." and the way Pine sat in the captain's chair.

The death of Spock's mother and the conversation between him and Sarek after. The new revelation that Spock's only home that is left is Earth. Can't wait to see how this affects him and his struggle with his two halves. Something tells me it won't take a hundred years this time.

Spock's romance with Uhura

The fact that Uhura is the first one we see the Galactic Ladies Man Kirk going for, whom he doesn't get, but his future best friend gets. This will add a whole new awesome dynamic to the bridge crew that I can't wait to see more of.

The warp effect, plus the new "Punch it!" that replaces the stale engage. I know alot has been made of the similarities to Star Wars with this new film, and that's a whole nother thread, but this similarity to Han and Chewie jumping into hyperspace filled me with geek inspired joy.

Pike. Every damn scene he was in ruled. I really hope he is in the next one in a big way.

McCoy and Chekov as well. Chekov's sprint to the transporter room and McCoy's eyebrow and everything he said. SO DAMN GOOD!

This film was like Star Trek shakespeare. It was awesome from the opening to the end, and I flippin loved every second of it.

Yes, Jacob did a very good job as young Spock. What did you think of the actor they had to play young Kirk?

The opening shot of the Kelvin was very different, goes back to what I wrote above too. The way they shot some of these ships was very cool.

Oh hon, I'll join that for sure! :luvlove:

Something else to add to the thread:

-McCoy's accent ;)

It was more like, "I kan dew dis."

;)

This is true. ;)

I thought the kid who played Kirk was good, but I disliked the way they lightened his hair. I remember him from "The Amityville Horror" and his hair is actually darker. I'm not sure why they gave him a wig. It looked a little off to me.
