Yeppers, she fixed us up with a right pretty one.

I'm here to serve ;)

Memo to self: Go get the book!

Oh get the book!

The novel is great so far, and really worth it. I picked my copy up at Books a Million, but they should have it everywhere now. I didn't really see anything else out though, just the novel and a guide with all the characters from the new movie, like a photo guide type thing... lots of Kirk, Spock, Uhura and McCoy pics. :)

If they'd had Karl Urban doing the audio book, I'd have bought it already!

If Karl read the novel, it'd be on my i tunes currently ;) I think we should be in charge of media...

agreed! do any of you remember the photo novel of TWOK? it was one of the first things I bought after the release of TWOK. that one, and a Starfleet biobook for the TOS crew. they were both fantastic! they're still somewhere on my bookshelf. *rummages*

We should start our own PR firm and just show up for the sequel.

I gotta say, after reading the book and after all the hullabaloo about the ship being built on land, it was really touching to see Kirk staring at his destiny as he finally made his mind up on whether to join Starfleet or not.

And I like the fact that you know who is responsible for him getting on board in the first place. It was an act of friendship that brought him to that place at that time.

Oh! I do remember that! I had that... I wonder where it is, it's probably with my old novels in the storage closet. I think I need to dig them out.

As soon as the DVD is out, I am taking the drill fight scene and re-scoring it to the Amok time fight music.

heh I agree, a PR firm for the advancement of hot men on Star Trek and other ideas... We need a business plan ;)

I thought the ship being built on land, and the promo shots of the Enterprise on the ground were very cool. I liked it.. it does give a sense of ultimate destiny for Kirk.

McCoy bringing Kirk on was fabulous. Especially the way he did it, and I loved the little pause McCoy did before he turned around and went back for his friend. Loyality even then.

vermillion - I felt the same way! The minute he stepped on screen and opened his mouth, there he was. :) Oh if you get the novel (which I just picked up last night) there are extended scenes, and some of them are very good at fleshing out Kirk, Spock and McCoy scenes.

I definitely will check it out.
Does the novel mention these missing scenes that were in the trailer:

Are those supposed to be Nero's Klingon captors?:wtf:

There are plenty of negative topics around here, lots of nit-picking and such, which is fine. No movie is without its flaws, even this one.

But I'm in a good mood right now, and I want to discuss the things in the movie that you just flat-out LOVED. Funny lines, bad-ass "Hell yeah!" moments, whatever you want. Here's my personal list:

  • Captain Robau was an instantly believable and competent captain in the few minutes he was on-screen. (Compare him to the weaselly captains from past movies whose sole purpose was to make Kirk look better by comparison.)

I especially like how Robau ordered the ship to warp out of the area when confronted with the ginormous vessel o' doom. Oh wait.

Well, since this is a positive reactions thread, the *ONE* thing I liked about the movie was the brief shot of the six-lobed Starbase in Earth orbit. It was the first time I'd seen a realization of the Franz Josef/Star Fleet Battles starbase.

I hear it's already downloadable :p

*hides*

It sure is!!! :)

I liked the tech a lot more. The ship had a feel of a military like vessel, and that space was a very dangerous place.

I also liked the way that the ship was ran under Pike. These people were not family, it was much more like service people in real life that they serve under different captains and commanders.

Karl Urban did McCoy wonderfully. He was by far the closest of the bunch. Simon Pegg is good in anything he is in, although I don't think he got Mr. Scott down. But the poor bastard is isolated on a cold barren place, with no liquor, MRE's (which still taste like dogcrap in the 23rd Century) and a muppet for a companion that he loathed.

Winona Ryder. Sorry folks, I find her sexy (even though she is a loony toon who would not go out with me if I was rich anyhow.)

The new Chekhov. He's cool. The old Chekhov was annoying and an idiot. (Yes, Walter Koenig, you!)

(I'll expand later)
