STTE events at the Creation Con and closing

Hey, kids,

It's your ol' Star Trek: The Experience shill was some details on some of the final events of The Experience. This was e-mailed to me by my friend April who plays Andorian Commander Tahryn and Vulcan Professor T'Pril and was one of the first people (along with another friend, Kerstan, who plays the other Andorian on the station) hired at The Experience in 1997 to test the shuttles and refine the scripted part of the Klingon Encounter. Lynn (mentioned in the e-mail) plays Major Kahlyn, whom several of you have a major crush on :).

Please keep adding to the memorial thread. As you will see from this e-mail, the people that work there love the place as much as we do.

Here's the message:

FYI, you may be interested in attending (and perhaps participating, if we can work it out) in a few of the events that are planned for the con and for closing...

1) There will be an "alien panel" on convention Sunday evening with all of us present aliens in attendance (in our human form) so people can ask us questions about character, makeup, etc. It will be moderated by Michael Westmore so lots of convention-goers will want to attend. You probably won't get to be on the panel, but we can certainly have any previous aliens acknowledged (if you are there), and no doubt people will want to talk to you about your character if they know you worked there previously. I am so excited about it; many fans have said they want to know more about us, and this will be their only opportunity...as yet there is no information about how many tickets will be available and how much those tickets might be...

2) There will be a decommissioning ceremony (my idea, thank you very much, although Lynn has been working very hard on the details) after the last show on September 1st. The station will close around 9 pm and we are trying to get someone important (haven't quite got it worked out yet so I can't say who) to come. If you are familiar with the decommissioning of a ship, this is similar, very pomp and circumstance, and everyone on board will be "called off" the station. It will be the perfect closure to the amazing thing we have created over the past 10 1/2 years.

It has been my privilege to be a part of STTE over the years, I am so proud of the timestation and what it has meant to everyone involved. No one has more joy (and pain) invested in it than I have, and I will be so sad to see it go. As for Commander Tahryn, she is only interested in getting command of an Imperial warship, so she will not shed any tears over the collapse of the temporal rift. Professor T'Pril, on the other hand, would have liked to have more time to complete her observations of 21st century humans, because she finds them so fascinating. But a teaching position at the Vulcan Science Academy awaits, so she will no doubt use her knowledge of humans in this time period to educate young Vulcans about humanity's struggles.

Feel free to send this message to anyone who cares about STTE. Please, please join us and help us make the timestation part of Star Trek mythos.

See y'all there.

Is the alien panel something Creation is holding or The Experience itself is doing?
I'd like to attend that if possible. Unfortunately, I can't do the decommissioning ceremony.

I'm glad to know this wonderful place will meet it's demise with honor and dignity. I'm making my last pilgrimage at the end of this month... unless I decide to attend this decommissioning ceremony, which I may very well do.

Is it set in stone that the very last day will be September 1? I would truly like to be there to bid farewell to the people and the place but living in California it does take a bit of advance planning to be there. I'd hate to get there on the first, for instance, and find out it had all ended the night before.

The email leads me to believe that this is something management is doing (at the urge of its longtime employees) to make it all official.

At any rate, I know for a fact that several current and former employees will be there on the 1st (it's Labor Day), including me.

Well if that event is open to the public I'd like to don a TNG uniform, stand in the crowd and offer my applause and cheers. That place has been very special to me.

You'll keep us convention goers up-to-date on the how much, when and where that alien panel is to take place won't you?

Not only is there a panel on the aliens on Sun., Aug. 10 at 6:30, there is also a Klingon make-up demonstration at 10am. There are more details at www.startrekexp.com but ticket prices are $20 bucks (plus appetizers) for the panel and $50 (which includes make-up and step by step instructions) for the make-up demo. The latter is limited to 40 and registration closes on July 28th.

Enjoy.

Biggshow, I really appreciate your insider information on all this. Thanks for sharing these details. I'm lucky; I'll be there on Sept 1. Hope to see you there.

Is it okay for me to share this information on my blog?

Definitely. At this point, because of the posting on The Experience website, it's pretty much public knowledge. I'll also keep posting more info about the closing ceremonies as I get it.

I just spent a fabulous evening at Quark's and there's a lot in the planning stages for the Creation Con (especially Sun.) and the closing ceremonies on Sept. 1st. They are trying to get one of the 24th C. Admirals to decommission the place.

There is also a wall of memories started so e-mail Chad Boutte at the Experience or add to the Star Trek: The Experience Memorial Thread. I'm going to edit the responses into an LCARS format and present it to the staff at the Convention. They are also looking for photos of you at The Experience. The memories are going to be glued to the wall. I saw the first few and, not to go too much from the ridiculous to the sublime, but it's beginning to look like the 9-11 walls. That's probably way overstating it so my apologies to anyone offended by the comparison.

Speaking for all of us at STTE, know that we know who many of you "repeaters" are. We've seen you in the shows again and again. We would be honored if you were to join us on the final day and of course, the days leading up to that.

I'd like to attend that if possible. Unfortunately, I can't do the decommissioning ceremony.
Creation ends at 6 p.m. Sunday, so if this is all scheduled into the evening, unlikely it's a Creation event.

Oh man, this is killing me. I cannot go to the Vegas con and all of this STTE stuff sounds like another great opportunity I will have to miss! ARGH!

I'm trying to decide if I should go one last time to STTE on August 10th for those events or on Sept 1st. Is there anymore details on the decommissioning ceremony or any other events happening on the 1st?

^^^Hey, Divine, I tried to respond to your PM but it got blocked. They're still working out the details for the closing. Some of it might get decided at the Convention (depending on who they talk to there). I know there will be tons of local fans and past and current employees, probably all crying our eyes out or trying to keep a stiff upper lip. I know that I am going to be a mess (all that emotional availability they teach you in acting classes :) ).

I'll try to keep everyone updated. Try to stop me :) .

Oh, I guess I had it blocked unless your a buddy or mod so I turned that off.

Theres only a few more days left in order to register for the Make-up event so I guess I'll have to sleep on it and decide tomorrow. Going on the 10th will definitely be more expensive but seems funner.

Not only have I been to STTE at least 10 times, my wife and I renewed our vows there for our 20th anniversary in June. We brought our kids and a longtime friend joined us, too. The staff was professional, engaging, genuine, and accommodating in every way. It was a wonderful...well, experience! I highly recommend it for all. We did the Vulcan Vow Renewal and the minister was a woman who years back was one of the actresses in TOS' "A Piece of the Action." What a sweet lady!

Just sent my picture in.. thanks for posting the information! We are going to the party Thursday night at the convention so I will be sure to do the Experience again.. and again!
Deb
