Spoilers Stranger Things - Season 5

I found the first two new episodes a bit annoying and drawn-out. They took way too long to reveal that Mr. Whatsit was Henry/Vecna - like, who else would it have been? - with the show treating it like some big deal. Holly being there at all was jarring as I barely remembered she existed and thought was a toddler last time we saw her? The back and forth bickering between the good guys got annoying fast for me: going from Steve and Jonathan pointlessly arguing for five minutes to Steve and Dustin pointlessly arguing for five minutes was rough. Almost feels like they're trying to make Steve unlikable so that it will be a shock when he heroically sacrifices himself later in the season and Jonathan and Dustin cry.

But episode 3 and 4 were a lot better. I liked Erica sedating Derk's family (but, umm, someone should check they aren't dead given how quickly Derek woke up versus how long the other three have been asleep!) and the Home Alone bit with the Demothingy. Maya Hawke is always a delight. And episode 4 had plenty of action (Vena at the end had to be "inspired" by Vader in Rogue One, right?) I'm sure the season will build well from here. Well, pretty sure.

I'm pretty sure we've seen Holly in at least 3 of the first 4 seasons. And she hasn't really ever been a a toddler. She was at least 5 in season one.

Honestly, I struggle to name much in the first four episodes that I'd call a "spoiler," save for a few twists right at the end of Episode 4.

Most of the initial runtime is setup, or letting us know pretty obvious things based upon where Season 4 left us.

Lego has announced a new 2593-piece set based on the Creel House with 13 mini-figures (sadly, no love for Erica or Karen)...with a hefty $300 price tag. Additionally, if you buy the set within its first week of release (January 1), you'll get a bonus mini-set of WSQK with Hopper and Joyce.

I would love to get it but it's so damn expensive. Hell, I never got the first one for the same reason.

Yeah, I really wish I had the money to afford all these awesome LEGO sets they keep putting out.

For most of the first three episodes I had thought maybe he was going to be a new character they were introducing who was going to help Eleven fight Vecna. I never totally ruled out him being Vecna, but his MO was so different from Vecna's that I wasn't sure it was him.

According to the Stranger Things Wiki Holly appeared in 5 episodes in Season 1, 3 in Season 2, 3 in Season 3, and 5 in Season 4, so she's been a pretty big part of the show since the beginning. She's pretty muched aged in real time as the show has gone on, according to the wiki she was between 3-6, and has aged up one year and is now 7-10.

I didn't really have a problem with any of that, I thought it all made sense with what was going on.

I just found the back and forth jammering (is that a word) nature of the arguments annoying. I don't mind characters having conflict or aguing, it just got repetitive and tedious (to me.)

Like I said I barely remembered Holly so couldn't have told you what age she was before or now. It's probably been picked up on already but there was a bit where Karen asked Ted "do you even know what age your daughter is?" which I thought was quite funny.

So the show won't dig deeper into Wills powers and confirm he is piggybacking off of Vecna ?
I bet that turns out to be a spoiler.

I don't want to know Lucas is carrying Max out of the hospital in a hurry or whatever way it was put.

i have this theory about why lucus carrying max out

its most likely that henry creel found out about max and holly plan to get out of the dream world thats behind the wall in the upside down world and at the the same time vecna probley found out that max is somewhat in the same way of a coma like holly is and mr whatsit sent the demogorgans looking for max

this season is more exciting

i kinda wish they made more seasons but with new cast members as the years base in the years the show is based in goes on

what i mean is if there was a season 6 to 10 just have a new cast and have the story set in the 90s

Part of the draw for the series is the 80's setting, owing to the Duffer's love for movies of the era.

imagine if netflix started doing the old school episodes numbers style format

in other words if netflix shows did 21 to 22 episodes per season style imagine how long it would take to make a stranger things episode and season

It’s never happening again. The industry can’t support that level of production for marquee entertainment that’s heavily based in VFX.

Not only that but the amount of labor that goes behind 22-26 episodes is absolutely insane. Design, writing, filming, pre- and post-production. There's a reason why so many of those shows left people exhausted or worse (and that's before you even get to child labor laws).

Those days are long gone. For the better.

Having just rewatched it all from the beginning, those scenes do get quite repetitive and lame. They've had them several times in each season IIRC, and always follow the same pattern:
Excited shouting match, escalating to everyone yelling at the same time, while another character sees something really important and yells st the group 3 times to make them see it as well. Guys. Guys! GUYS!! And then they all stop and stare.
It's funny once or twice, but not anymore :D

If something like Stranger Things was done say 20 years earlier, you'd have the majority of the runtime taken up by episodic "monster of the week" plots, with only a handful of the episodes advancing the main plot.

TBH, while that wouldn't work for most modern shows, I think people would like that more with Stranger Things. The number one thing people go to the series for is to spend time with the characters and see their interplay, and lots of "filler" gives a ton more time to flesh them out. In contrast, the show is much more hit/miss when it comes to "big plot."

I actually like the way the plot has been moving on this and would hate to see them forced to drag things out just to hit 20-25 episodes a season. As much as I enjoyed stuff like Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, and the Arrowverse shows you could tell there were times they were really struggling to stretch things out during some of their more arc heavy seasons.

The title, "Stranger Things" just seems ripe for a monster of the week type show. A few months ago I was thinking about the similarities of Stranger Things and Fringe, from the standpoint of both shows have alternate realities. I had seen something about the show going deeper into the Upside Down and it's origins but everything just seems wrapped around Vecna. In my mind, The Upside Down could have been just multiple civilizations and monsters hunting for territory or something. We could have seen, like Fringe, a fully fledged world and I feel like the show had a missed opportunity there. Of course maybe they might get more into it in the final 4 episodes, but it feels a little late now.

Well... I'd hesitate on saying it's for the better in terms of these shorter seasons, coupling with the downturn in the amount of production, decimating the amount of reliable and stable work in television. It's almost completely eliminated the ability to make a middle-class living as a crew member, writer, or actor.

The seasons were a juggernaut of production, but it kept people employed, allowed them to get their guild insurance plans, and also fostered the ability to learn and move up within the production chain.
