I'd rather his arc just be having to adjust to being back home with everyone else.

But that only means something if there's a major time jump. Season three has a short one of three months (?), but in order for Hopper to need any personal period of adjustment, I would say a time jump of a few years needs to happen, so by that time, Joyce and Eleven have more or less moved on with their lives, which would be a challenge for Hopper.

While I mostly liked the epilogue, the time jump being three months made no sense. It should have been like six weeks instead.

After all, the confrontation with the Mind Flayer happened on July 4th. Moving ahead by three months means early October. By that time Jonathan and Nancy should have started college already (I think they said both were going, although Jonathan had to pay his own way) and would have moved out of town anyway. It also would have been pretty disruptive for Will and Eleven to move after a new school year had already started.

Very good point.

Although an excuse could be made that in real life, how and when a family moves is not always perfectly timed to the school year. For all we know, Eleven and Will were already enrolled in another school (or had transcripts ready to be sent to the new school) and would transfer in October. Now, in the case of Jonathan and Nancy, if the move happened in October, its possible both could be attending some college that requires a bit of a drive (not uncommon), so the moving scene was more about the couple not living near each other anymore.

We should also consider we were not given any context for the reason they were moving. We don't know what conversations the US government guys had with the survivors after they came in and found a closed gate. If some kind of arrangements were made for them to be safely protected somewhere else, if people changed their long term goals because of the importance of keeping El secret.

I believe Joyce told Hopper she put her house up for sale long before the events of the season finale, so she was already thinking of leaving for some time.

Joyce was thinking of leaving ever since season 2, at least, and her conversations with Bob about his possible house in Maine. The only reason she hesitated back then was because she was dependent on the doctors at Hawkins Lab to manage Will's condition, which doesn't matter after the end of season 2.

Plus, Hopper talked about trying to give her reasons to stay in Hawkins (i.e. him) and making her feel safe. With him gone, any reason for staying evaporated.

Looks like Hopper is brainwashed and turned into some sort of Russian Captain America.

I know that Neverending Story song break was supposed to be cute, but it seriously pissed me off. It seems fairly clear to me that Hopper and Billy died because that dumb ass little girl insisted on getting her stupid song sung instead of giving up the number earlier. That could've come at a less pivitol moment.

That's true. She even believed Dustin was playing around and/or exaggerating about why he needed her help.

Susie was pretty much thinking like Maxine. Your boyfriend slights you, make them work for your continued affection. She felt slighted by having to wait a week to hear from him.

The stuff with him on that front was a little too much for me. Like when Hopper gun him down and he falls and is motionless for a moment before getting up and revealing the bullet proof vest, it was a little too like the T-100 being gunned down in a similar fashion in front of the discotech in the Terminator. Of all of the 80s references the show's done and this season did, that one was a bit heavy.

I didn't think much of that, it fitted the situation and the surroundings very well and was a "fairly" subtle nod in my opinion. On the other hand what I did find way too heavy was Hopper's and Terminator's first encounter under the farm house which was pretty much directly ripped off from Die Hard. "You are a policeman. There are rules for policemen." Only thing missing was a pair of small shoes and a snapped neck.

Turns out that not only were Steve and Robin suppose to become an item originally, Maya Hawke and Joe Keery decided after filming a few episodes that they felt differently about the intended course for their relationship and that Robin was actually gay, so they brought their feelings to the attention of the Duffer brothers. After a "collective conversation," they changed it to what it is now.

I also enjoyed the fact that someone in that group was intelligent enough to see options to fight, and not just rely on Eleven and/or hoping a gun was going to be the answer (which it was not when dealing with the Mind Flayer). Max was shortsighted in dismissing Lucas's idea--especially after he mentioned that enough of the gunpowder fireworks combined could make a stick of dynamite. That's far more effective than a gun, and despite the doubters among that group, it did play a major role in the their final battle.

I was honestly really surprised they didn't end up killing the Mind Flayer with that green acid goo stuff. It being incredibly corrosive was an important plot point early on. I was sure it was a Chekhov's Gun moment.

The Neverending Story cover which made less sense is when Max and Lucas sing it to tease Dustin. Max is singing the song which likely delayed things long enuf for her brother to have to die to buy more time.
