Strange thing about the hull

I’m sick to death of hearing about The Orville on these forums
It’s not Trek. Never was. Never will be.
Discovery and Picard are miles superior to anything that fan wank series puts out :barf:

Just imagine how much worse "Orville" would be if it didn't feature a lot of Trek writers, directors, and cast members. :guffaw:

Oh, Discovery and Picard both have themes that scream "fanwank" - mirror universe so early in, callbacks and tie-ins with TOS out of the blue, the return of JL Picard and all the universe's XB's for a reunion party because the universe is such a big small place now... there's actually a lot more Trek fanwank in those two spinoffs than "Orville" has and "Orville" has used more old Trek episodes as partial templates.

Them actually being Star Trek might be a factor. They can actually use Star Trek lore in their stories.

I'm actually glad they DON'T use the Trek lore in the series. They have a clear canon, and new (but similar races) it's really neat to clear the slate

Cutouts dont bother me, but I do wonder how they get from the saucer to engineering, considering the nacelles are supposed to be too hot to travel through while the ship is running.

Who cares about practicality, it looks kewl.

A little practicality and thought put into a show isn't going to hurt. It might even add to a feel of tangible authenticity and not feel like a lazy magic wand waving fantasy, oh the horror!

Precisely. Orville was intended as a parody first but with serious moments. Otherwise it would have been as sophomoric, sophistic, and as lame as Family Guy (esp. season 3 onward) and American Dad and Cleveland Show were. I actually prefer season 1 because it is more its own thing than season 2... despite the ripoff of the "city in an asteroid" episode.

It would stop trying to be Star Trek and just be its own thing?

The horror.

But then we would have zero star trek-style shows on the air! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Just kidding. I'd seen enough clips of DSC and PIC that surprisingly prove otherwise, regardless of nitpicks and other scenes and episodes that prove the opposite of those. That said, MacFarlane would still do a better job with the actual franchise. Or else DSC and LD wouldn't have tried chucking in comedy scenes.

They got them magic shields for that. Kinda like how the deflector dish pushes away space particulatey mattery stuff but cartoon pting slug things can crawl around on it anyway while at warp or whatever.
