Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

If they wanted they could bring back Anson Mount and the Big Dog and pretend all the rest never happened. I would be cool with that.

Swan's working on Coroner for CBC in Toronto, Mount works on SNW there, and they're both comfortable with that city to varying degrees. Plus, it leverages the chances for an Alpha Flight movie eventually happening...but again, we digress.

Looks like we might be encountering the Talarians again, given the prominence of of the talarian republic on the background map behind Spock

Not necessarily. I think the systems circled in green are probably more important to whatever that scene is.

The Talarian republic was also on DSC maps but was never important.

There were LOTS of star systems and most with recognizable names shown on the Stellar Cartography map in GEN but none of them were important to the story except for the Veridian system. That map just confirms that the Federation knew of the Talarians as early as circa 2259.

From Discovery, we know they just use the Star Trek Star Charts from 2002 without changes, so eagle-eyed viewers saw out-of-time stuff like "Path of NCC-1701-A in 2289" during the Federation/Klingon war decades before, I'm sure the Strange New Worlds maps, like those in Picard and Discovery season 3 are based on the same with only minimal changes.

Hmh? Since amber glow is the default OK color in the 3280s, and blue in the 2250s, green probably means "We're dooooooomed!".

Or the Cardassians, since if and when they're again recycling the Star Charts layout of the political map, that's what Spock's handsome head is hiding...

Good thing Pike has all those awards from the Cardassians. He and the Union must get along great.

Still not liking any of the uniform choices. But that 'do will do.

SF doesn't either, since they're going through a weird period from c. 2254 to c. 2278 of experimenting with multiple conflicting uniform designs. Nothing as long lasting and universal as the Federation Blues until the Monster Maroons.

We know the Discovery-style uniforms are already in use by 2249 and possibly a couple of years earlier if the Saru Short Trek where he meets Georgiou for the first time is a firm canonical date. The Kelvin-style pullover shirts with belts were in use in 2233 and we don't know for sure when those were retired, but that allows for the Discovery-style zipper tunics to be used for perhaps over a decade.

2239, in the Saru Short Trek, which is why I said the Federation Blues were in use for decades (2239-2258, minimum), second only to the Monster Maroons (2278-2349, minimum), longer than any other uniform design, I believe.

Yeah, that would outlast the TNG Season 1 and 2 uniform design which lasted from 2350 until 2366 or 2367 if we count background officers and extras.

Every ship, station, outpost etc in modern Trek has it's own uniform and insignia now.

Actually, show both Colts ;)

Maybe they could mess with the audience from week to week. For example:

Pike and Number One are sitting in the mess hall, apparently in the midst of an argument. Pike stands up and shouts: "Colt!" He then walks to the replicator and pulls out a bottle of malt liquor. "See, Una, I told you so. You don't have to say 45 too!"

or...

Pike is on his farm in Mojave, sipping a beverage. He looks up, delighted. "Colt, you made it!" he says, as a newborn horse walks out of the barn

Thank you, I'll be here all week.
