Fuck yeah, this was brilliant! What a time to be a Star Trek fan. Above all I just think it‘s so good that they are allowing themselves to produce something as fun as this. I don‘t think I ever laughed as much about any episode of Trek before. I basically watched the entire episode with a huge grin. This brought together my two favorite current Trek shows, and I think they did a perfect job of it. I wasn’t sure how well this would work, but the characters somehow fit perfectly together. Will have to watch it again.

People act like everyone just HAS to like LD and if you don't you're just a big stinky stick-in-the-mud who don't like fun!
Oh for crying out loud, literally no-one is saying this. Please tell me this is not the first time you don‘t like something many others seem to enjoy.

I absolutely LOVED it! It was a great blending of the styles of SNW and Lower Decks, and it was such a kick to see Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome play Boimler and Mariner in live action. I just wish Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero could've gotten to join in on the fun too. Maybe next time.

I loved the joke about how slowly and quietly everyone was talking in the 23rd Century. I haven't been a big fan of the goofy shenanigans of SNW episodes like "Spock Amok" or "Charades," but this one hit the sweet spot. A definite 10/10 for me, and it's tied with "Ad Astra per Aspera" for my favorite of the season so far.
* I kind of wish it had been a sexy poster for Boimler (and am not sure it isn't).
I was frankly half expecting a Farrah Fawcett-style pinup poster. It would've been a funny in-joke considering Rebecca Romijn's history as a model. But it turned out to be a cool callback to "Ad Astra per Aspera," my other favorite episode of the season so far.
Why assume M'Benga was demoted? My guess is that he left Starfleet to help care for Capt. Pike after his accident, and returned to the Enterprise after Pike was returned to Talos IV in "The Menagerie".
I'm of the opinion that M'Benga didn't transfer back aboard the Enterprise until after "Journey to Babel," since he apparently wasn't consulted about Sarek's medical difficulties in that episode. And McCoy's close call with Sarek was what motivated him to request a Vulcan specialist.

This 100%! It‘s cool that through the voice acting they are part of the crossover episode. But still, having them there as their live action counterparts would have been awesome.
I agree, they were missed in the live action bits.

Even just a glimpse of them made up as Tendi and Rutherford through the portal would've been fun. I wonder if not including them in the live action segments was a story decision or more of a budget consideration to not have too many guest actors on the episode.

10/10. I loved this episode. It was the one I was anticipating the most this season, and it did not let me down. And It was a nice surprise to get to see it early. Thank you Paramount+! It was awesome to see Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome playing their Lower Decks roles in live action. I especially enjoyed the scenes with Mariner with Uhura and Boimler with Spock and Pike. I just had a great time watching this episode. Live long and prosper to all involved.

5/10

I've never been LD fan. I have no problem with humor, but that brand of humor is more annoying than funny. Their personalities are way over the top and just not believable. The animated sequences were cool and there was some touching moments. But these two shows just don't mesh. By far the worst episode of the series.

I guess we should consider us lucky that they at least included Mariner, seeing as it was originally just going to be Boimler festuring in the episode. I mean, the first half of the episode with just Boimler was great, but having Tawny Newsome as Mariner too felt so significant.

This was great :D

Marnier not knowing what a “pin up girl” is doesn’t seem like her

I expected to like this because I've generally liked Lower Decks. I was worried though, that it might just have been a gimmick. In the end, though, it very much exceeded my expectations.

I was pretty surprised by the decision to have Boimler the only time traveler for the first half of the episode, but it was surprisingly effective because when Jack Quaid was playing him quite differently here than Lower Decks. Yes, he was fanboying at the start, and the comedic element was strong. But ultimately, the setbacks and the slower pace/different tone of SNW brought out a different side of the character. We saw a level of pathos that LD hasn't allowed to come out, as Boimler's embarrassment and frustration grew over the course of the episode. Something that contrasted pretty strongly, because Mariner more or less stayed in LDS mode the entire time, having had less time in the 23rd century to suffer setbacks.

As for the actual cast of SNW, they were all good here, as I knew they'd be, given they've done plenty of comedic bits already. Much of it was mere befuddlement at Boimler and Mariner's antics, but they did manage to wrap in some sweet character moments, from Pike's unresolved feelings around his father and his birthday, to Una's "pinup" picture, to some more Spock/Chapel drama inadvertently caused by Boims (I felt so bad for Chapel in that scene in the turbolift), to Mariner trying to teach Uhura to relax. Really everyone other than M'Benga and Ortegas got something meaningful to do here (and Ortegas almost never gets anything meaningful to do), so I can't complain.

The last-minute inclusion of a callback to Enterprise was a nifty way to technobabble themselves into a solution and also allowed the SNW crew to fanboy themselves for like 30 seconds. It would have been a much sweeter scene if someone didn't explicitly call it out though.

It was interesting they chose to include Pelia here, but I feel like they missed a beat not having Mariner meet her and drop that she knew Pelia from the future.

If I had any quibble here, it's that I thought the downtime Orions were played a bit too straight for my taste. Yes, I know that it was important to show they weren't pirates - or at least, didn't want to be pirates - but I think a bit more could have been done here to add some levity to the scenes including them.

While I know what they were going for with that final animated scene of the SNW crew, my only thought watching it was damn, Melissa Navia sounds a lot like Kira when I don't have her actual face to look at.

On the whole, a lovely romp and a near-perfect Trek comedy.
