I have a rules question concerning the new Strange New Worlds contest that Pocket Books is running. Mods, if you feel that this question would better fit in the Fan Fiction Forum, feel free to move it there. I just thought that there was a greater chance of finding someone in the Lit Forum who might know. I can ask my question without getting specific to my plot.
In the list of rules for the contest, I saw this:
d) Stories that deal with previously unestablished death of a Star Trek character, or that establish major facts about or make major changes in the life of a major character, for instance a story that establishes a long-lost sibling or reveals the hidden passion two characters feel for each other.
Does this rule apply only to main characters, or to ALL previously-established Trek characters? I understand that a story where I say, killed off McCoy, would not be accepted, but do you think that killing off a guest star who was never brought back in onscreen Trek would be permitted?
I ask because the plot I'm developing doesn't really work unless this particular character dies. I couldn't really do a debilitating accident instead.
Does anyone know for sure? Thanks in advance!
