Yeboah sound like the Uhura from the JJ films.
Ortegas was the original surname for Jose Tyler in early drafts of the Star Trek pitch.

Holy shit you're right. The names are coded and it's Uhura. And now I think of it, the black doctor is likely M'Benga.

La'an, Ortegas, Miller and Biodun are fursure names associated with SNW characters. At least for right now. That could always change though.

If you dig hard enough you can find the information out there. Why this website chose not to list it out though is beyond me.

In my head canon, I've already made Biodun Disco's CMO. After deciding not to go into the future, Biodun accepted the transfer to the Enterprise that had been offered to Culber. And yes, his Andorian patient also transferred to the Enterprise, thereby allowing Biodun to continue the tonsillectomy.

In the new remastered version of TMP there will be scene where the tonsillectomy is finished and the CMO retires.

the casting call says the character is from 'the original series'.

^ Still don't understand how Kirk could possibly turn up, since we know he and Pike don't even meet face to face until Kirk takes over command of the Enterprise, and obviously it's too early for that.

I suppose Kirk's appearance could be a guest shot in which he and Pike don't meet. Be interesting to see how they go about doing that.

Because these writers/showrunners have to. They HAVE to. When it comes to call backs/ tie ins, I really believe it is so tempting they could not be said to have free will if prosecuted for it. It's like the toddler trying to resist the marshmallow placed before it.

It's Kirk. They can't not. Just like DSC had to be a Spock spin-off.

It sounds very much like TOS in many ways.

I'm neither surprised nor disappointed not to see Boyce back. The character was quite old enough, as originally portrayed, to be gone by this point, plus with the three central characters already cast as white the show really needs diversity in filling out the remaining major slots.

If "Biodun" really is supposedly a character from somewhere in TOS I'd guess that they're using a codename on the casting sheet.
