News Strange New Worlds casting/new characters

They're not going to do a series set during TOS.

I agree. I don't know why they're supposedly going to redo TOS been repeated here so often like it's been greenlit already.

‪‪I suppose I understand why some folks feel it’s an inevitability. Sure, the entertainment industry is very much prone to rebooting and redoing everything, but ‪‪I don’t get the feeling that folks making any of the current Trek shows are planning on it/building towards it.

Rogue One had the overbridge on the Death Star look exactly the same, just with better lighting effects, 40 years later. Same for Yavin's Rebel command center. Time difference isn't the same for sets like it is for actors. You can recreate a set that you can't do with an actor (short of, again, expensive CGI).

So I view it as a conscious design change by the producers, and fans are free to have fan explanations to explain those changes. Nothing wrong with that.
The difference is is: STAR WARS sets and props were always designed for feature film widescreen aspect.

The TOS Bridge sets and other ship sets were designed with a 4 by 3 TV ratio in mind. Yes they could have used the old original set design for the 1701, ( and I honestly thought they looked okay when ENT completely rebuilt and use them for the season 4 episodes "In A Mirror Darkly" parts 1 and 2).

That said I thought what they did for STD season 2 with the 1701 Bridge set was fine and really struck a good balance between the 1964 and 1966 original designs and a 21st century production design update. It appears they've updated the sets again for the upcoming series Strange New Worlds to something they feel strikes and even better balance between the 1966 design and their 21st century design update, but time will tell.

Lower Decks? Prodigy? Section 31? Starfleet Academy? Worf?

None of those are flagship material. They need something new and flashy that they can advertise to the masses. What's better than the return of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy? I will hedge here and say this only happens if there are no more Kelvin films.

If SNW sees any measurable success beyond the middling attention paid to Disco and Picard, then there will absolutely 100% be a TOS redux. As such, it's a very safe bet that there are already contingencies in the pipeline should such a situation arise.

I think they could do a "New TOS" show because it's what I've said before, they've created three lanes of new series: The TOS Lane (SNW, early DSC, S31?), the TNG Lane (PIC, LD, PRO), and the Future Lane (later DSC, SFA?). If you're going to have so many Star Trek series, this is one way of breaking it up.

I agree with you here, but given how many years SNW might run, and that they probably only have one more Kelvin Film in them, I think this will be a non-issue by the time it would actually happen.
