Stilted?

Stilted? Definitely. There's no way Doug Jones' feet are like that in real life.

 

Stella Mudd was one of the best performances on the show. Kay Elliot and Roger C. Carmel would have made awesome recurring characters.

 

A criticism IS an observation, so not sure what your point is.

Mine was hopefully clear: if you're gonna hold Trek accountable for "stilted" performances...better be ready for a long day.

 

Not really. Most of her dialogue has been short clips from trailers so hard to tell either way. When we finally heard her in conversation from talk shows, she sounds perfectly normal.

 

You don't get it. I don't think it's negative. It's a particular style, I'm wondering if others have noticed, and I'm wondering if it's because she's Vulcan. I'm not holding Trek accountable.

 

I know vocal mannerisms run to the core of Trek, namely Shatner's pausing, but Avery Brooks' stacatto turned me off of DS9 right from the start. I guess it's not so much the stacatto itself as the robotic quality it imparts. At least Shatner expressed emotion whereas Brooks came across more robotic than Data. He was kind of like a SIRI style text-to-speech voice before they existed.

 

He improves over the seasons.

 

I think Green is fine, it takes time to make a character someone's own.

 

Interesting. I always thought Sisko was the most passionate (least robotic) of the bunch.

 

Brooks didn't express emotion? What "DS9" were you watching?

 

I agree. That (a bumpy or awkward start) was also true with just about every actor on every Star Trek show in the first (at least) half of the first season.
