steeler vs az cardinals in the super bowl

Re: steeler vs az cardinals in the super bowel

The Steelers have had a nice run this season. To bad it ends here.

Re: steeler vs az cardinals in the super bowel

This just proves the point I make to my friends all the time. That every football game is nothing more than a flip of a coin. ANY team can beat any other team. You can be 15-1 and lose to an 9-7 team in the playoffs and youre done. Thats why I dont put too much hope into any one team. Cause they can all be beat. Just ask last years Patriots and this years NY Giants...

Super Bowels-- A requirement of every Steelers tailgater.

It's usually not a coin flip, but it's also never close to 100%. And that uncertainty is an integral part of why sports like American Football are so much fun to watch. If you know who's going to win anyway, why bother?

A true fan supports their team through thick and thin, even if you know in August that your season will be a lost cause, there's always hope.

Biggest intangible? The Cards coaching staff knows the Steelers as well as the Steelers coaching staff knows them. Whisenhunt and Grimm helped build this team. The one time they faced each other since Tomlin was made coach, the Cards beat them.

Demi's positional analysis:

QB: Slight edge to Warner. Roethlisberger is very good, but Warner has a quicker release and is more accurate. Big Ben's stats in the passing game are mediocre this year (17 TDs to 15 Ints), but he's a big game QB with great escability. If he only plays average, the edge clearly goes to Warner.
RB: Actually a push, though I know most people would favor the http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/PITSteelers If Meandenhall was healthy I'd give it to the Steelers, he could have been a big contributor this season, but Parker isn't an upgrade at this point over James/Hightower, and Arrington is a better 3rd down back than Moore.
WR: Edge to Cards. Big edge to Cards if Ward can't play. As much as I respect Ward, Fitz is having the best post season of all time, and I don't see the Steelers shutting him out if the Eagles couldn't. And Boldin/Breaston is a big edge over Holmes/Washington.
TE: Edge to Steelers. Spach is out, and while most haven't heard of him he was burying folks in the running game. Miller is the best of this bunch, Spaeth is good. Pope has great talent but is a head case.
OL - Push. In the regular season it was no contest, but Grimm has taken these guys up a notch in the postseason. This is a good but not great Steelers line; they've had better.
DL: Slight edge Steelers. Both lines are good against the run, but the Steelers line provides more pass rush.
LB: Big Edge to Steelers. Harrison, Farrior and Foote are fantastic, and Woodley is getting that way. The Cards LB is above average, with Dansby really showing up in the playoffs, but the Steelers LB are among the best ever as a unit.
S: Push. Polamalu is amazing, but then so is Adrian Wilson. The best pure cover guy is Cromartie. But the Steelers play better team defense in the secondary.
ST: Push. Neither team is really special here. Both have very good kickers, but everything else is pedestrian.
Coaching: Normally even, Tomlin is very good and LeBeau is an all-time great.. But this is a matchup that really favors the Cards, because not only are the Cards coaches familiar with the Steelers, they are familiar with them in that system with those player. Big edge Cards.

Should be a great game. I call it 27-24 Cards.

That's true.

Re: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl

I thought the Cardinals were going to pull another one of the magic bag of choke, but they pulled it off. I'm impressed.

What was it Marcus Cole said.... "If you're going to have delusions, might as well go for the really satisfying ones!"

Demi:
Very good analysis, except I have to disagree with you on RB. Edgerrin James has been decent recently, but he's a shell of what he once was. Moore has more or less matched him in production this year. Hightower has actually not produced much in the running game, though he does have 10 TDs, so he's good close to the goal line. Parker is healthy, now, meaning that Pittsburgh has a very good speed/power combination to go against the Cardinals run defense. Of course, that run defense has stepped it up in the post-season, a huge reason they've made it this far.

As to coaching, very good to remember the Cards' staff and their familiarity with the Pittsburgh personnel and schemes. The only thing here is that Pittsburgh's staff will be well aware of that, and LeBeau's ability to craft quality defensive game plans brings this closer to even I think, possibly still an edge with the Cards.

The biggest advantage for the Cards is just as you said - at wide receiver. Fitzgerald is I think the best in the game right now. He catches everything thrown his way, and he's strong enough to bull for extra yardage.

One question though.... how do you rate the other intangibles, or do they matter at all in this game? I'm thinking of experience in the Super Bowl, history, effects of an extra week off, etc.

I'll pull for the Cards.

This year they've pulled upsets on a par with Barack Obama's

After the Cowboys are out of it, I just have little interest and root for the underdog. I want Arizona to win!! I hate the Steelers.

Steeler vs AZ Cardinals in the Superbowl

I wished the Eagles could have eked out a win purely because the Cardies are going to be a huge obstacle for the Steelers, especially after the injuries last night.

It'll be a huge game, no matter what the outcome. The fact that Tomlinson is even going is a huge deal, same for the Cardies themselves.

GO STEELERS!

I should have known that Gaseous Anomaly would post in a Super Bowel thread.

I think the Steelers will win. All things considered the teams seem to be fairly even at this point, but I give the intangibles to the Steelers. They have far more big game experience than the Cardinals.

^It's all football though. I mean, they don't have special Superbowl-only rules, or judges in clown-pants or something.
