STD: Only Marginally Better than The Final Frontier

-might be, but I know what I'm talking about, since I'm a WRITER! I've written stuff! Postcards mostly and the occasional grocery list. and as a professional, I can tell you, well, nothing substantial, it seems

Writing fanfic doesn't make you a writer any more than uploading your home made sex tape makes you a porn star.

To be fair, it does make him a writer, just not necessarily a good one, or a published one etc. Putting time and effort in to writing does make you a writer in my opinion.

However, based on the style of his writing in the OP, I'm certainly not tempted to read any of his fiction.

Additionally, being a writer doesn't make someone's opinion any more valid than someone who isn't.

Nah, because you being a writer still doesn't matter.

Do you have anything to say about the memo that proves you wrong? I'm just curious.

Someone who has studied writing, you know, a writer, is more likely to notice some of the lazy stuff in DSC (orphan girl who is related to a great hero from elsewhere in the larger work, the love of her life is doomed to betray her/and or actually be the thing she hates and fears the most....) but some of this stuff, though in a writers toolbox (to borrow from Stephen King) is also plain to us as viewers by this point. So writers skills would be relevant to discussing what is a written work.

I’ll just throw it in, along with my other ‘DSC sure borrowed a lot from Voyagers casting bible didn’t it?’ Comments elsewhere, but....Seska is Ash Tyler. Discuss.

Does that mean Burnham is Chakotay, since he was leader of the Rebellion (the Maquis) and she tried to start one?

I hardly remember Seska, trying to erase every memory of VOY in the last 20 years. She was the Spoonhead that posed as a Maquis member, am I right?

You funny! Lorca tore a page from Ransom's play book too...

That's right. Then her cover was blown and she joined the Kazon. They're kind of like Klingons except they have rocky-looking hair.

Yup. I literally just thought that while replying to you on the other thread. I am now struggling to find a single DSC character that isn’t closely related to VoY characters. It’s impossible so far, except for the ones that don’t actually have a character yet. Even Saru is like a mash up of Tuvok, Neelix and Kim. Which makes him Tilly’s sister.

I don't see it. She still was a sleeper agent in the most classical sense, while Ash was more of a Manchurian Candidate

And more to the point, she had a close and intimate relationship with a high-ranking officer, was a surgically altered ‘enemy’ that was from precisely the most ‘hated’ group for that crew member, and yet was not entirely ‘bad’ for the most part. It was also a story that ran over several episodes. She’s also a bit of Lorca, in that she’s a liked fan favourite who does a heel turn later on, while professing a love for a lead and trying to get the crew to come around to their way of thinking now they are a long way from home.

If I was Jeri Taylor, I would see if I had any lawyer friends in my phone book.

Yes and no. He had suspicions for a loooong time. And we don’t know if Seska was originally Manchurian before being activated at some point...that could go either way.

So Tom dated Seska? Then that's why Chakotay didn't like him and I suddenly have an idea how Tom was caught by starfleet.:cardie:

Nope, but Burnham has chunk of Chakotay in there too...she was also a commander as well as the Seska thing. XD
Burnham is Tom, Tilly is Kim, Lorca is Ransom, Ash is Seska, Saru is Neelix/Harry/Tuvok, Geiorgou is Janeway/Warlord Janeway, Stamets is B’Ellana (grumpy engineer who really only melts for beau and commanding officer, occasionally the lower ranks with talent.) Culber is Kes (one note carer character, accidentally given a supernatural existence due to a mushroom, looks like a dental hygienist.) Ash is also part B’Ellana (struggles with Klingon side, half human half Klingon who has relationship with the Paris character.)
Am I out of DSC characters already? I guess security chief cow sharpener is the entirety of Voyagers starfleet crew me members that got got wiped out by being sling to the delta quadrant. There to dislike the captains rescued convict and get killed in short order and set up the series premise of the moment.
I think that’s about it. If you like we can admit to the Seven and Tuvok elements in Burnham, but she is deeply Tom Paris (which of course has some roots in Ro Laren.)

There’s a reason there are so many Galley scenes and why the DSC gets a funky moving ship part is all I am saying.
