STC: To Boldly Indiegogo

A couple of thoughts ...
  • It's tax time. People might be waiting to donate until they know how big a hit they'll take.
  • STC could possibly be taking a bit of a lower profile because of the unresolved Axa-mess.
I'd like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to Lord Axahat for royally screwing things up.

You're the best! (Not.)

LoL. I second that. Not time to panic yet. Still plenty of time to make some changes.

Starting the drive right after Ep. 6 premieres or in conjunction with a preview clip of Ep. 6 could have helped. They could have got launched on a resurgent wave of enthusiasm over something new to be seen.

Hindsight I think EP6 should have premiered in the middle of this fund drive with a big fat intro from Vic about the drive and tax deduction at the beginning.
Yeah, but the only trouble is the nonprofit status hadn't been approved yet when they made the video.

Seriously a donation that is tax deductable wouldn't really amount to much on your income tax filing. Maybe if you were donating serious bucks.

And if you're not American and not in the U.S. then can you still put that on your income tax?

No, it's just for U.S. income tax.

I wonder, though, if there'll be any corporate donations. A write-off is a write-off.

They aired an episode at a convention this past weekend in a room full of people. Surely the Indiegogo was mentioned? Lots of potentional new fans and / or contributers?

STC could possibly be taking a bit of a lower profile because of the unresolved Axa-mess.

That too. It has changed from one big last founding for all remaining episodes to something smaller. It certainly can’t be easy navigating the stormy see but I think we have a great captain for the ship!

I wonder if the end date of the Indiegogo drive is set in stone? I.E. could it be extended to take advantage of EP6 premier coupled with a promo for the fund drive?

In the recent podcast Vic stated that perhaps they had been too stingy with teasers and spoilers for forthcoming episodes. It might have been nice if they could have cobbled together some sort of teaser trailer for forthcoming episodes to help generate buzz and interest. You don't have to give everything away, but something to entice interest.

Stills or screencap teasers aren't really enough. That sort of thing likely won't matter much to hardcore fans, but it's a tougher sell to more casual fans. We are well past the era when some stills in Starlog magazine can get us excited.

Take the opening scene for "Divided We Fall." There is tension and drama in that brief scene, and cut just where the console explodes it doesn't give you any clue to what follows next. But you would be left thinking, "What the hell was that about?" and you want to see more.

An excellent suggestion. They are also missing some perks that made them nice $$ before. During the first Kickstarter they made 30K from people who bought walk on parts and during the second kickstarter they made 40K from the same thing. So far (I know its early) no one has signed up for those perks. Is that market tapped out?

Yeah, I've seen people extend them before.

No idea if they'll go to the "in demand" model after the funding drive has ended, but since they chose the "flexible funding" option this time, they'll at least get what they've raised (minus Indiegogo's percentage) when the campaign ends.

Well, I dropped them some bucks... might upgrade it later as well. I'm pretty sure they will hit their goal. This fundraiser has been more of a soft sell than Kirkstarter... I'm sure they'll ramp up soon.

I'm wondering if corporate donations will raise a red flag? CBS may think that they are worth going after because of their deep money pits. Corporations could be dinged by knowingly contributing to a project that illegally uses CBS's IP. It's weird because nothing is written in stone, but when you get big players with loads of money, things need to be set in stone.

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I have a Lotto Max ticket I have yet to check. If by some chance I won some seriously major coin I would definitely help STC finish their run. I wouldn't put any conditions on it either.

...Okay I'd like to visit the set when convenient. :)
