By this standard all taxation would be illegal.Didn't say it was, mate. But I don't believe there is such a thing as "right" UHC...you pay one way or the other.

This is a warning (not an infraction). Quasar, some of your comments are close to trolling, so how about toning down some of the rhetoric so this thread can remain civil.Flaming. Why are you escallating the tensions in this thread, RW?
I didn't think I was, but if you say so...
I was just trying to point out something, that Quasar might not have been aware of.

Yo! It is what it is. Socialism is ceding more control to the government...so YOU should not be surprised when then up the ante on you down the road.
What I and others want to do is stop it in its tracks here in the US.
Most of us do not want that system here. Mostly only freeloaders and ne'erdowells do, btw...
Insulted yet?
Don't be. Just because I hate socialism, fascism and communism doesn't mean I hate YOU.
As I said, nothing you say can be insulting to me.
But, make your choice:
Either
1) [ ] We Europeans (and Canadians, Aussies, etc) are living in Comminazistic hellholes, or
2) [ ] Your idea of socialism, communism, etc. has nothing to with reality.
Obviously to everybody who lives in such a country or has ever been there, 1) would be quite an absurd thing to say. But make up your mind yourself, only one of these two statements can be true.
[btw: opinion polls continually show that a majority of Americans does want public health insurance]

it's UN-Constitutional to force people to buy something here in the US. THAT is the issue.
I think someone here doesn't have car insurance. Shhhhhhhh.

Um...you'd be wrong about that. But, that's a different situation. You have a choice as to whether you drive or not...

Unfortunately, people don't have the choice as to whether they live or not. Insurance companies get to chose that for you!
I have had friends who have travelled abroad to European countries that had UHC. They were there for several months, and a couple of them got sick. They were able to walk right into a clinic and get free treatment. I really doubt that's something that would happen in the US.

Now the insurance czar will look out for us!

Nor should it.

Only if you live in a city with decent mass transit, which is relatively rare.

Preach on my brother!Make em get out and work and pull their weight. All this gimme gimme stuff comes at a HEFTY price.
The price of freedom.
What in the effing world are you talking about? There are plenty of medical insurance companies in country with universal health care. Just like there are private practice doctors, private clinics, and pharmaceutical companies. Where did you find the idea that universal heath care would make private business illegal? That's just nut.Unfortunately, people don't have the choice as to whether they live or not. Insurance companies get to chose that for you!

Nah...there won't BE any private insurance. They'll make sure of that. That's what they want to do -- put businesses out of business.
I'm at a loss for words. But, it'll be good to have Der Kommissar telling you you can't eat that twinkie you want because you'll be putting a burden on the government system.
Oh...and Harry Knowles might as well give it up now...they're going to force people to lose weight under Der Kommissar's system.
Alles Klar Der Kommissar?
LMAO!!!

Oh...and Harry Knowles might as well give it up now...they're going to force people to lose weight under Der Kommissar's system. Or they'll fine him for every pound they deem "over the government recommended limit".

Why is it that Americans insist they are the country with "freedoms" when their worldview seems to be "serve the state, but never, under any circumstances, let the state serve you back"? Sorry to bring up an old topic of mine, but in the USA all young men must register for a military draft or face punishment (even if the draft isn't actually active). So the state demands service from them, all of them, but refuses to look out for their health if they are poor, suffer unforseen disaster, etc. How is that "freedom"? Can you please explain how you are more "free" than I, because as always I'm simply not seeing it.

You know...those "evil and greedy" companies that just take advantage of the poor peasants and intentionally withhold health insurance from so they will die of some horrible disease without pity.
