Started watching this again tonight

Well if I had to select the must see episodes from season 1 (quality not withstanding) that form part of the overall mythology of the show.

Children of the Gods
The Nox
Thor's Hammer
The Torment of Tantalus
Bloodlines
Hathor
Singularity
Enigma
Solitudes
There but for the Grace of God
Politics (1 of 3)
Within the Serepents Grasp (2 of 3)

Season Two

The Serpent's Lair (3 of 3)
In the Line of Duty
Thor's Chariot
Secrets
The Tok'ra, Part I
The Tok'ra, Part II
Touchstone
The Fifth Race
A Matter of Time
Serpent's Song
1969

As I said earlier some of these aren't the best, but they do lay ground work for later episodes, characters/ ideas etc...

I just watched S1 and S2 first episode, over the last week (Quite a bit of I hadn't seen, or don't remember), and watching the season in a week, the arc moves along alot quicker than I had remembered. Matter of fact, I remember seeing the 3 parter (last two episodes of S1 and first episode of S2) on SciFi Channel Tuesday Night Marathons, and I always believed that was later in the series, I thought that was the Showtime ending Cliffhanger, where SciFi Channel continued from.

I don't remember the Nox appearing, so, I am assuming there isn't many more (If any) appearances from them, I thought they were pretty cool, but, the races we will be meeting very soon that do stick around for much of the Series, I am greatly looking forward.

This is my first time watching straight through (Previously I'd catch the Tuesday Night Marathon some weeks, and then go weeks missing it, and sometimes caught the daily episodes. S8 through S10, I believe I watched live). So, it's really cool, seeing it all straight in a row, in the proper context :bolian:

I'm not understanding the compaints about the bad acting? I think the principals (SG-1 and Gen Hammond) were pretty good straight out of the Gate, and the Go'a'uld, well... they're supposed to be over the top.

If memory serves the Nox really only appear in the episode named for them and "Pretense", the episode where Klo'rel crashes on Tollana and a member of the Nox plays a pivotal role. I don't believe they're seen in any other episodes, which is somewhat unfortunate.

Actually, there's a brief appearance at end of a S1 episode by the Carol Kane looking one, where the folks from the Volcano planet with advanced technology are looking for a new home, but, all the planets offered are "too primitive"

That would be the episode "Enigma"

Thanks, hard to keep track of episode titles when you burn through a Season in a week, LOL. Much more enjoyable to watch the arc moving at that pace, though :bolian: If you run into an average (or worse) episode or 2 or 3, no big deal, a decent or better episode is coming up soon.

Just tipping it over like the Egyptians had done before the movie. I mean, the gummint wasn't interested in going through it again, but they left it up in case someone else wanted to come through?

The Egyptians didn't just tip the Stargate over; they placed cover stones inside of the inner ring. This would have completely stopped a wormhole from forming, and no other Stargate would be able to connect to it.

The iris works in a similar way, but it is just far enough away from the inner ring to allow a wormhole to be established - but nothing smaller than an atom can actually pass through.

Give SG-1 some time - the first season isn't the best, but it does get better as the characters are fleshed out.
