Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Squandered opportunities - they could have reskinned the MU CGI Defiant to make it look like it was built in haste from whatever resources they could scrounge up instead of painting it to look identical ro the Starfleet version right down to a meaningless hull number.

I thought the MU Defiant was unmarked.

Yeah, it was. https://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/4x20/shatteredmirror_275.jpg https://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/4x20/shatteredmirror_203.jpg https://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/4x20/shatteredmirror_288.jpg https://ds9.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/7x12/emperorsnewcloak_645.jpg

Unless those big blue and gray hull panels are some kind of camouflage or insignia and not different types of armor, you got what you wanted. I do agree that they could've mussed up the bridge a bit more rather than just changing the color of the lights.

They also swapped the Dedication plaque out for a diagram of the ship.

Wasn’t the mirror Defiant still using the studio model for “Shattered Mirror”? I have some memory that the battle between it and Worf’s ship was (one of?) the last battle scenes to be done with physical models.

It’s next appearance in “The Emperor’s New Cloak” was a mixture of that footage plus stock footage of the regular Defiant, resulting in the registry appearing on the hull.

It actually made the MU boring.

It was a ship being built in a hurry to protect the station, I would bee fine seeing dangling widesxand even a stepladder on the bridge instead of perfect fit and finish.

Not an accurate analogy.
They have replicators, transporters and antigrav tech.
I agree the hull number was a tad pointless, but otherwise, I don't see why a ship would have to look 'unfinished'... and having a stepladder on the bridge would be dangerous in combat.

Most of the work on the ship was done well before Sisko came to the MU... Smiley brought Sisko through to help them with the engine issue.
Sealing the bulkheads just before combat would have been relatively simple task to make the bridge look 'complete' just in time for combat.

The World Razer class has dropped in STO.
Besides one CSS Astraea, I've seen on the web with Japanese names. Fittingly enough, I plan on getting one and naming it the CSS Yamato NCC-1305-E.

With the CSS prefix landing in game, part of me hopes to see Confederation-appropriate ship names rather than CSA ones.

TMP also had a scene near Engineering where a crewman in the corridor is moving a large floating gurney in front of him while holding a small control. Not necessary to the story and took some effort, but like the antigrav stepladder on the bridge it is nice to see advanced technology being used casually - helps the world building for the story.

That was my first thought. That they were the goggles Ray wears in the first movie when they first spot Slimer in the ballroom of the hotel.

The Ecto Goggles from Ghostbusters were based on an old model of night vision goggles, the ones in Jurassic Park were yellow and green and looked more like they were designed by Apple.

He has a great collection of props and graphic novels, that model of the Titan is stunning too!
