There's no need to be obtuse. You know damn well that's not what I meant.

I see no reason to find absolutes in a fictional franchise.

I sometimes wonder that myself. The way it comes across is very much a nihilistic view of entertainment media.

That's pretty much an absolute statement.

So how does Matalas looting the assets bin of Star Trek Online effect the canonicity of starship design and even canonize the events of ST:O? It'd certainly make things interesting considering Gates McFadden has signed on to do the next expansion and lending her voice.

Taking an element from a non-canon source canonizes that element but not the entire source.
Examples are names first coined in novels: Ni Var, Hikaru, Nyota.
The Luna class is from the novels but Star Trek: Titan remains non-canon.
Thus, mentioning Risian caracals, Iconian survivors etc, and showing STO-originated ships don’t canonise STO.

Personally, I love when canon and tie ins reference each other.

The mention of Iconians was not a reference to STO according to the writer. The Risian caracals was confirmed to be though.

Nah, the game is still non-canon. Only the elements that are used are considered canon.

The Enterprise-F in Season 3 will contradict STO anyways, as in STO the ship was launched if 2409, but Season 3 takes place in 2402.

On the other side of things, the devs at STO are only the new show canon where it doesn't completely invalidate their existing stories.

Well then I would say change or don't use it.
Taken out of context it's a nice ship except for the nacelles but in context of the series I'm not a fan of the saucer or the overuse or the "A" thing recently.

The producer has indicated that he prefers the classic round primary hulls.
But that doesn't mean they are all going to be that way.

I shouldn't feel the need to qualify my statements on a fictional organization but here we are. It was a generic statement, not an absolute.

There are very few, if any, absolute statements in fictional organizations. Fans get hung up on this simple because something no longer conforms to a preconceived notion, be it uniforms, starship design, registry numbers or warp speeds. How many dust ups occur over these things?

    It doesn't.

I do too but it's not a choice I would have made for in universe reasons.

It’s ok. I’m not even sure what you’re arguing about anymore.

Not arguing. I'm discussing and gaining insight about you and your view on Trek. Quite fascinating if meaningless ;)

I mean, it's too late, the season airs in 2.5 weeks.

They did come up with an in-universe reason tbf.
