Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

One day they'll make a Trek that pulls a Halloween or Terminator, and picks up after one of the earlier movies deliberately ignoring everything that comes after. Heads will explode.

And does anyone remember "Balance of Terror", when phasers were photon torpedoes and Kirk had to use shipboard communications to order them fired from the bridge, to someone below decks who had to press a special button? Which never happened again?

Or when Pike's crew used hand lasers? And a massive laser cannon because phasers weren't thought of until the series proper?
The only reason we have phasers is some one told Gene "lasers can't do that" and he actually listened. Other than the name they functioned the same for the needs of the show. (I.e. Ray gun)

I think we are going to be seeing a whole new class of Romulan Bird of Prey than we have ever seen before.

"She sits in her perch, far above the plain below, watching the young pups wrestling in the dust. No war cry, darkness in her eyes, cold. Her lines, an irresistible force of natures wonder."

I thinking we might see a remade version of the Romulan D-7 battle cruiser. With the Borg technology that Romulans are studying the Romulan D-7 would be a very manageable and deadly warship.

Romulan at the core with the talons of the Borg is a fearsome child.

Roddenberry's dead. CBS is in charge now. And CBS didn't need to follow in Roddenberry's footsteps. They chose to.
This is strangely vindictive.

I'd be happy to talk to CBS. I have no problem with them choosing to follow with what Roddenberry had done prior. Nothing is wrong with my eyes, as you so colorfully claim. It is simply another artistic interpretation.

There is one confirmed example of Trek taking place in an alternate timeline and one that wasn't corrected(if we don't count the Kelvin Timeline), and that's starting in 2372 following Akorem Laan's return to the late 22nd century at the end of "Accession(DS9)." Kira notices a poem he never finished in the original history suddenly being completed and the fact she still remembers the original history where it wasn't. Sisko replies that the Prophets work in mysterious ways or words to that effect.

Vindictive? Not sure where you're getting this from. I'm just pointing out that CBS has no intention of making DSC look like TOS. I never said that was a bad thing. I just said that CBS chose to make a 'visual reboot' of TOS, so I can no longer trust my eyes that what I see in TOS is accurate, because someone else is currently in charge of this universe and is dictating what I see irrespective of what my eyes show me. How is that being vindictive?

Saying that CBS is saying that you can no longer trust your eyes. If I misread, I apologize but it comes across as very hostile and vindictive towards CBS.

And I can watch TOS and DSC side by side with no issue.

Well, I can't be responsible for your judgments.

And I can watch TOS and DSC side by side with no issue.

Yeah, so can I. Never said I couldn't. It's the 'DSC is a prequel to TOS' thing that I don't agree with. And as I keep saying ad nauseum, I just treat DSC as a separate thing from TOS. When I do that, I like DSC just fine.

Didn't say you were.

That's fair.

I don't understand what CBS has do with any of this but I think I'll just move on.

Is the PIC board really the place to have the same tired old discussions about the validity of DSC?
just asking for a friend
Probably not. Personally in the regards of PIC, I don't much care whether it is in continuity with DIS or not, it really doesn't have any impact. I merely care about it maintaining decent continuity with TNG and the associated movies.

I can watch the original Star Trek side-by-side with Space:1999 with no issue. Heck, I could probably form a continuity between the two (I'll toss Hell on Wheels in with it for good measure), it doesn't mean they go together. :p

They are different entities, made at different times by completely different people. They might as well be completely separate shows.
