Love this new (slow drift) shot and detail of La Sirena

Also noticed many ((mostly anglo-amer) friends & Youtube Trek sites discussing the new series) just can't seem to pronounce La Si rena, and default to La Seri na.:)

It kind of reminds me of a Breen ship. I doubt it has any connection to the Breen but that has a very DS9 feel to its design.

Yup, thought the same. Some thoughts that also crossed my mind, it has some Jem'Hadar influences, the "head" front section looks like an AT-AT head from Star Wars and the paint job could be from a Narn cruiser from Babylon 5 :D

Best model of the D was the first 6 footer, then it was spruced up for Generations.. Sexy beast that..
Wonder if it's the same model from the Tng Remastered stuff? That was originally in Maya, and that what they use now, so no converting it.. Maybe update the textures and lightning..

Some guy on Youtube (grain of salt) claimed the cg used in Picard, or more specifically in this trailer, is the Eaglemoss cg from their Starships Collection. He could make out some minor inconsistencies that both the Eaglemoss model and the Ent-D in the trailer show.
IF that's the case, then it would open floodgate leves of opportunities for other ships to appear in Picard.

No doubt because the earlier makers of CGI ships were told by fans that they don't look real unless they look as if made of cheap plastic.

That would kind of defeat the purpose of the Earth Starfleet NX-01’s original exploration mission. If the NX-01 was meant to be a military/fighting vessel, then they wouldn’t use it for exploring.

Yes, the NX-01 seemed ill-prepared for military action at first and not all that interested in the role

That's just it, though: NX-01 was Starfleet's very first foray into exploration. What was this organization with its mighty ships doing before that?

Archer's team was not much good at fighting, but they had even less idea about how to explore. Basically because this was Archer's team: he was the Starfleet Cousteau, and not even Jacques-Yves, but more like Philippe, riding on dad's reputation and on pioneering equipment dad invented. The rest of Starfleet was different: they whupped Klingon ass with death rays while NX-01 didn't even have those installed until circumstances really twisted Archer's arm.

Of course, NX-01 was perfectly good for fighting in the end. She'd have to be: deep space is not for the wussy. But she was also the only asset that UESPA could hope to use for exploring deep space, what with the other ships civilian and Starfleet alike explicitly lacking the required engines. It's a bit curious, then, that we never really got any mention of Archer researching in cooperation let alone employ of proper research organizations. But Archer was out there in practice because he went AWOL, escaping from the Vulcans to Klingon space and then refusing to come back. He didn't have much formality attached to his mission - no researchers for conducing the research, no diplomats for the diplomacy, few fighters for the fighting. This because his was the exception rather than the norm.

One wonders whether UESPA has anything to do with the government to begin with. The acronym is found in the immediate post-WWIII days already, stenciled onto Friendship 1, long before Earth was United in any fashion. Quite possibly the U part there is more like the U part of United Airlines, and the organization itself but a commercial parasite to the government's space effort.

I thought Jem'Hadar battle cruiser at first. But now that you mention it, I can see a bit of the Breen ship in the silhouette.

I'm stoked we're going to see a galaxy class starship (be it a new ship, a flashback - whatever).

An interesting thing - lighting in Europe. Very high light density in Italy, eastern Germany (consistent with the current population density), western Poland (today most people live in the center and in the south). You can't see the lights from Austria, the Czech Republic, France - where have their inhabitants gone?

Current state of lighting in Europe. It seems that people moved to Germany and Poland.

P.S. sorry for my English ! I don't have many opportunities to use it

Why would France be lit? It's still daylight (well, late afternoonlight) there.

Otherwise, the lighting appears to be cut-and-pasted from the real deal. Which is weird - don't future people fear and despise light pollution and write to their Council Members about it? Think of the poor birds and bees!

When it is dark in Germany it is also dark in France. For example 20.01.2020 sunrise/sunset:
Berlin 08:05 - 16:29
Paris 08:35 - 17:28
Warsaw 07:33 - 16:00

When it is dark in Germany it is also dark in France.

Well, obviously not, as France is to the west of Germany.

Here the terminator appears to run basically from Nice to Amsterdam. And the Italians and Beneluxians are jumping the gun with their lighting, while the French are appreciating the evening stars...

There's a lot of genuinely nice detail with windows, nacelles, and deflector colors but the hull still looks like a cheap tin can lacking any detail, relief, or anything giving an aura or flair of any authentic feel. Really, Starfleet's going to waste a ton of time buffing out every last welded line?! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

The 2' filming model was cheap plastic, partly because it was made from a cheap plastic Ertl kit and given reflective paint to simulate lighting (which didn't always work), but the 6' model... not so much. After all, that space shuttle thing we saw fly into orbit looks like plastic from a distance as well. And it doesn't look like any of Bender's shiny metal parts... Yeah, some did claim the new-for-season-three 4' model to replace the tacky 2' and impressive-but-oversized-for-TV 6' model looked like plastic with out-of-scale relief. I agreed on the latter, certainly... but it didn't look like cheap plastic... meh, either way they're all a mix of pluses and minuses.

All that said, the actual show means more than the effects in the end. No matter how great it looks, nobody's going to sit through it a hundred times the way they didn't gawk and gape at "The Mind's Eye" a hundred times back in 1990.

Not sure how that would have worked anyway as the 2-footer was used during the production of the pilot, presumably before ERTL even created a model.
