Would something named a Science/Space Probe Agency/Administration be a fighting organization? Starfleet was Earth's fighting navy in ENT, with the Military apparently its fighting army; nobody else did any fighting, or, say, policing. This shady UESPA might be an Agency in the sense of the CIA, perhaps indeed flying combat drones on assassination missions. Or then an Administration in the sense of the NOAA, conducting research on weird spatial anomalies and subspace weather whenever Starfleet gave their equipment a ride to deep space, and returning the favor by loaning out a conference room to Starfleet every now and then...

I figure UESPA's activities running starships dwindled with the advent of the Federation. When we here it used in TOS, I just head canon it that the Enterprise was on detached duty from Starfleet.

My take is Earth's Starfleet was a division of the UESPA.

Perhaps they also oversaw administering Earth Colonies, research outposts and the merchant fleet.

That would kind of defeat the purpose of the Earth Starfleet NX-01’s original exploration mission. If the NX-01 was meant to be a military/fighting vessel, then they wouldn’t use it for exploring.

Yes, the NX-01 seemed ill-prepared for military action at first and not all that interested in the role

One of the things is that a lot of the starships sizes don’t make sense. There have been several detailed threads that show the Enterprise should be significantly larger the official dimensions to hold the number of decks and the height of the decks that we can see. In the same way the excelsior should be much closer to the size of the D based on the same breakdown. Can’t explain a roller coaster turbo lift. But discovery’s Enterprise might be a lot closer to what size the ship should actually be.

and the whole thing that on a spaceship like on a naval ship space would be at a major premium and would likely be designed in ways that are a lot more cramped then we ever see on most/any starfleet ships. So there are lots of things about starfleet ships that look nice and look cool but may not be quite practical in reality.

Hm, maybe in a couple of shots in "Generations"? Or "These are the voyages"?

Up to this point she looked best in "Generations".

It's that Taxi shuttle I've read about in some spoiler reviews. The person also claimed the DSC shuttles are only used in private roles, Taxis, school buses etc.

Nice shot of the Picard-era LCARS in the newest trailer too, behind this rogue synth

I think they may have reduced the length of it however, looking at it in motion, it seems more of a TNG Shuttle length.
