Probably 5 seasons like most shows these days. Atlantis however wasn't cancelled didn't they finish it themselves so they could make Universe?
I thought Scifi wanted a 6th season but MGM said no?
There was going to be a Atlantis DVD film but i think the credit crunch has ended that idea.:(

Two, because to copycat BSG in the third series, it will suffer more from Voyager-style viewer malaise than the previous two series. Of course, VOY lasted seven seasons, so who knows?

I'm always glad there's a Stargate on TV so I wish them well.

No, it was cancelled.

It was a mutual agreement to end it

According to Wright, the three parties mutually decided to end Atlantis and make movies, and then launch Stargate Universe. This would allow the SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe “legs” of the franchise to continue to run together, hopefully far into the future.

^ Right and Moore desided it was best to end BSG, the truth is that Sci-fi wouldn't give him two seasons and he wanted it to have a conclusion.

Plus that Atlantis movie is really great! I have watched it 4-5 times! Oh yeah it was never made!

I'll say five. But I think two things will happen: 1) The show will evolve thematically and aesthetically away from nuBSG and back to traditional Stargate

It better had for me to keep watching. If it does, I can see it lasting 5 seasons at least, if it doesnt, I'd be surprised if it got past 3 at the most.

2 seasons tops.

I think its mediocre and derivative and won't bring in large ratings though SiFi will be desperate enough to keep in on for a second season... maybe.

Without a doubt it will get a second season unless the world ends, but that isn't until 2012 anyways.

It would be neat if they brought in some 2012 things to the Stargate Franchise. :)

Anyways after watching last night's episode, I say we have 2, maybe three seasons like this one and then they change it for any latter seasons in order to save money or something. This show really feels like it should be a miniseries of 20-30 episodes more than a long running TV show.

I like it because they seem to be using science for once and not made up bullshit, and the idea is neat, but I just don't see it lasting that long, more so because they used the Stargate once in 5 hours.

I'm going with 2 - this one, then one to try to fix it. Man, this is a dull show - I've pretty much given up on it already. Can't stand any of the characters (esp. Eli!) and the plot is just plodding. Stargate used to be fun - that was why I watched it. Now - not so much.

Yeah I agree. I'm finished watching episode 4 tonight and flip all happens. It's the same thing every week, on the ship, looking for lime, water, food, energy etc

I thought SG1 and Atlantis had grown stale with the typical action and fun. But I actually started watching Atlantis again to wash Universe out of my mind. Recalling the first few episode of SG1 it was a great show packed with action and adventure. Universe fails terribly. If it's trying to be NuBSG it's failing terribly on the story, pace and action. Did they blow the budget or something?

Im still hoping the episodes improve, but so far I'd say 2 - 3 Seasons tops if things don't pick up.

I cannot help but wonder what the response would be towards SGU if there was no need for the characters to scavenge for supplies at the beginning here and the show was an action adventure styled.

I'm thinking four seasons barring some major calamity with ratings or writing. The premise should have some staying power if they can resist the temptation to successfully dial earth.

I think a better question is how long will Robert Carlyle stay? Unlike most of the other actors the man has a successful career and only came to SGU for the challenge and because he was pissed off.
