Stargate Universe SPOILERS!!

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

I REALLY like the sound of this! We needed something different, something that breaks from the traditional formula, this sounds like it.

I'll comment more on certain aspects later...

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

What's there to like?

A crew checking that various Stargates landed ok on various forest planets thousands of years ago?

Losing the present-day human element would be a monumental mistake as well.

Actually, this sounds like Stargate Infinity Part 2.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

(Exploring multiple galaxies and parts of the universe where even the Ancients have never been means running into civilizations they never met, let alone seeded themselves)

I bet you any amount of money you want, the aliens will look human and talk in english.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

And the team's mobile computers will look like laptops

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Funny on gateworld everytime someone says something about Stargate U the entire thread gets deleted.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

It does sound kinda meh, but I'm going to reserve judgement until there's actually a show to judge. I hope it's better than it sounds!

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

I was always hoping they would do a ship based show talking place in the present, but then they blew the ship I like up.

And I love the negativity here. I complain about a shity episode that was shit and we have at least seen, and get bitched at. People here are already complaining about a show that might never be made!

Maybe they can do Stargate Mars and have another team on Mars this time traveling through the gate and find another super badguy. I'm sure everyone here will love it!

They are trying something new, and that is REALLY needed in the Stargate universe.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

I like the idea of trying something new, and it looks like they're really trying to do that. Whether it can be pulled off, especially in the long term, remains to be seen, but I'm very cautiously optimistic about the whole thing.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

^^^

The franchise just needs a creative break and/or fresh blood, in my opinion. Both series have tended to "coast" at times, almost like they're on auto-pilot because the writers seem to have only a few standard episode formats that they recycle, recycle, recycle.

But just imagine trying to explain this premise to someone who has never or hasn't recently watched Stargate (viewers they absolutely need to keep from being cancelled). An Ancient vessel flying around other galaxies connected to our stargate on a "ninth chevron" that no one has ever mentioned before, and now civilian humans fly around in it and visit humans in other galaxies who speak English (again).

I'm not saying it will suck, just that I haven't much faith in the current team of writers, producers, etc. And before you ask why I keep watching it, it is because I've been watching Stargate since 1997 or 1998 and have seen every episode -- it is similar to how you still like your idiot friend from high school even when he's being stupid.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Do you really believe viewers are that stupid? It's really not that hard to follow, and it's why we have pilots.

And where is all this negative Stargate writer talk coming from? I bring it up all the time and have my head cut off by everyone but about three people. Now it seems like the cool new thing.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

^ I've been going on about the negative SG writer stuff a lot these past few days.

Not "stupid' per se -- more like fickle, easily bored, and tired of old formats.

I think that SGA's recent ratings, bobbing between 0.9 and 1.1, have shown that.

The producers say they want a new stand-alone series, but this could be just as background-loaded and incestuous as SGA.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

It sounds like an interesting idea for an SG-1 or Atlantis miniseries (perhaps this ship is in the Furlings' home galaxy), but it really doesn't seem like the concept would hold up well as a full series.

It's a good thing that the Ancients had such foresight to add an additional chevron on every stargate that could eventually connect to a ship they didn't build or plan to use until millions of years later.

Well, they had the foresight to add an extra one that would eventually be used to allow a stargate to connect to other galaxies that would take hundreds or thousands of years to travel to by ship.

I'm not surprised they had that kind of foresight. The Stargate Network isn't really the sort of thing you want to have to scrap and replace every time you have an upgrade.

Count me in with the people who like the premise. And since polls make everything more fun, and the days I can do this are officially numbered...

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Well, since I have a mixed opinion, I voted for "I have no opinion." :p

Oh, we're in a similar boat, if not the same one, which is why I'm only cautiously optimistic. The premise, as written, expresses a desire to be "different" than Stargate has been in the past. I'm especially intrigued by the idea of their being no "big bad." Could the writers, who have shown a painful lack of creativity as well as a mediocre ability in developing characters do anything promising with the premise? That very much remains to be seen.

It was going to be made into a movie then they changed their minds and desided to try to make it intoa show.

Umm... they why do even the worst episodes of Atlantis get the majority of the people voting here to love it? Then why did SG-1 stay on the air so long? Why is Atlantis on the air? Neither show is making a "new format" maybe this show can.

I think it sounds like a neat idea, and there are 39 marks on the Stargate, only one will be needed to go to this ship, so they writers will answer this question, but leave the doorway open just in case.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

The mysterious ninth chevron, Wright indicates, enables a Stargate to connect directly to the advanced Ancient exploration ship no matter where it is in the universe.

Oh yikes! I'm all for different and new. I'm all for pushing the envelope. And I hate it when people claim a show has jumped the shark with its premise. But damned if I'm not going to break my own rules here, because this sounds like a premise shark jumping if I've ever heard one! That premise is completely ridiculous... more so than most other things sci-fi entertainment tries to get away with these days.
