Starfleet academy (tm)

With the right group of writers, this could be great. Could also get some younger people into the series.

Starfleet Academy is regularly derided around here, but I don't see any reason it couldn't be done as well as any other series. The prejudice against it stems from all the 90201/O.C./Gossip Girl garbage about puerile teens, but the "kids" who go to Starfleet Academy would be reasonably serious young adults who wouldn't spend all their time bed-hopping and gossiping.

Another objection is that they don't go anywhere. Well they'd have holosuites for training as well as field missions. Plus I want to know how my city of San Francisco turns out in the 23rd or 24th C. (For starters, will they EVER add more lanes to the Golden Gate Bridge? Maybe that's why they invented the transporter.)

Two or three of the main characters could be teachers, to reduce the problem of it "being for kids."

Star Trek 90210, why not?

A story about Cadets who fight for chicks, fames, and even a quest to seek the truth of live are interesting stories to watch.

I even ready to watch competition between Red squad cadets and other. Like in simulator, sports, space combats, etc. That's not a good idea, but GREAT IDEA !!!

Ok, so tell me if I'm wrong. I have this vague memory that seems to fit what you're describing, but I haven't for the life of me been able to find it. I could have swore it was a show called Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, or something along those lines. At the very least it had a very star trek feel to it, but I seem to only recall maybe one season at the most. I liked it, and as such I do like this idea, but can someone tell me weather or not I'm insane?

hmm... maybe. I wish it had more pictures. The ships look almost right, in 1995 I also happened to be 10.

I remember a series of star trek books that was released... I always called them mini books, and they were usually only about 90 pages, if that. They had some that showed the characters that we already know, (data, picard, janeway, etc) go through the academy. They each faced some sort of challange, and believe it or not Janeway wasn't always as sure of her command abilities as she seemed to be on the show. Those might be a good place to start for an academy series.

Yeah, they were for kids. But I still think they gave a good idea of what the academy would be like.

I personally, would like to see a series focused more on the Klingons. Not a Klingon Academy series, but the adventures of a Klingon Cruiser. Start Trek in reverse if you will. I would like to explore their series in more depth. Yes, we know quite a bit about their honor code and leadership, but there is, I feel, so much more to this race.

What do you all think?

^Yeah, those were written for kids, and were of varying quality (Peter David's trilogy about Worf was the best, IMO).

Check out the Trek novel The Best and the Brightest. I just can't pimp this book enough.

There's a novel series about this very thing written by KRAD. It's called I.K.S. Gorkon.

Sorry to rain on everyones parade but I just can't get motivated over a SF Academy series. It's just something about a goody two shows prep school for science nerds ... I refer you all to TNG's Ensign Crusher and Cpt Picard's experiences ... then there's DS9's Red Squad.

Anti-matter,

Well, they did show Wesley as a goody two-shoes, but as I recall, Picard was anything but! He was a cad, a brash, headstrong fellow who thought he could start crap with a trio of Nausicaans and do so without getting a scratch, let alone impaled through the back as he was.

I am also not a huge fan of the concept, but certainly, a core group of cadets could have wildly different reasons for attending the Academy, and different ways of reacting to their training.

I reiterate my opinion, with a new dash, that it can only work if it's a combination of Red Squad from DSN, the training cruise of cadets in TWOK, with a dash of the TNG ep, "Lower Decks," which I liked.

The Best and the Brightest, the kid books of Worf, Kirk/Spock/Bones, Geordi, and Picard; and the Shatnerverse book are great.

Xavier's School for the Gifted, anyone?

oh wait...

"Starfleet Academy 90210!? :scream: :censored: :brickwall:"
