I think the joke is that the number one "concern" or reason to dismiss SFA is the fear and/or assumption that it will be in the style of shows along the lines of those you mentioned. These fans especially like to show their age by comparing it to 90210.

Apparently they've watched it too because I never saw an episode of 90210 so honestly have no clue what the deal is.
