News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

This is really neither here nor there, but I find myself wishing that we had a more concrete release date than "2026" because I'd like to figure out if I have the time to try and squeeze in a DSC watch-through before it premieres.

Trailer says “Early 2026”, actually. So probably January to April, I guess.

Half Lanthanite, huh.

This isn't all that new though, the corpse found in the timeship was a hybrid of like a dozen species, Daniels is only "more or less" human. Fertility issues have long since been solved I guess.
Star Trek loves its hybrids, be they biological (Spock, Troi, Torres) or cultural (Worf, Seven, Burnham)

To state the obvious,...

All of this half-this,/half-that labeling is the opposite of attracting or opening the series up to new viewers. I wonder if the producers even conscious of that or are running on autopilot.

it's a peculiar Star Trek in-group coding premised on the notion that a character's racial background tells you something interesting about them. That it should be the first thing we're told about them. That the character's appearance should be designed to make us curious about what basket we should sort them into - which is doubly funny, because most "alien" makeup design in Star Trek is so minimal and conservative that it has little potential to catch the attention or imagination of anyone who's not already into the franchise.

It's also a problematic, old-fashioned kind of storytelling shorthand that many people would call "racist" now if not for the good will that Trek has built up on so many fronts.

I dunno. Given Star Trek canonically has most of the alien races able to hybridize (nutty though it is according to the rules of evolution and/or biology), and the Federation is a tolerant society, I really think there should be a ton of hybridized people everywhere - that it basically shows the values of the Federation in action.

Indeed, I feel that one of the failures of casting in Star Trek historically has been the lack of racially ambiguous human characters. Racism is absent from Earth, and particularly offworld, people of different backgrounds all grow up together, so visible human races should pretty much be a thing of the past among the cultural mainstream (unless you grow up somewhere like central Africa or China, that's comparatively isolated/off the beaten path.

Half Lanthanite, huh.
I wonder if that shortens or extends the persons life-span when they are hybridized with other races who don't naturally nearly live as long.

Assuming Pelia's statements were true about Pythagora's, she's already lived > 2271 Earth Years.

It's stated that Lanthanites have lived on Earth for Thousands of years already.

Pelia claims "They possessed an extremely long life span, described as 'almost forever' ".

Which if taken to it's logical conclusion and that she's not exaggerating, maybe 5-digit years life-spans might be common for pure Lanthanites.

Which could be insane to think about.

Imagine a life-span covering 10's of Thousands of Human years and seeing that much change in the World/Universe.

That would be so amazing.

Nahla is 422 years old, so she's lived about 2 times longer than the oldest known Human (Leonard McCoy).
That could be considered "Very Young" by Lanthanite Natural Life-Span standards.

Especially if they do end up living up to 5-digit Years.

Also Leonard McCoy managed to live to a very old age (at least 137 y/o when visiting the Enterprise-D for it's inaugural send-off).
We don't know how old he actually made it to in canon.
So Nahla is at least 3.080291970802919708029197080292× McCoy's age at that time.

I suppose living that long is awesome so long as you grow in the company of fellow Lanthanites who share the same long lifespan. Living among mayflies like us humans could be impossibly depressing if you get attached to them and process their loss as you navigate into wider social circles.

If the average Human lives as long as McCoy, imagine Lanthanites who gets to meet and befriend members of entire families where they watch the next generation grow up from being a baby till they naturally die of old age and you get to know many generations of the same family.

That could be a very interesting experience.

I know from my personal experience that getting to know my friends kids since they were babies and now that they're in Elementary School, it's fascinating to see them grow up.

The fact that Glee is now considered old makes me feel older. It feels like yesterday it came on after the Super Bowl.
The perception of time gets faster as we get older.

It's a fascinating thing.

Also, Grant Gustin (Glee Alumnus) has already managed to star as "The Flash" in the CW DC Comic TV show.
And that show managed to last 9 seasons.

I really want Nahla and The Doctor to be super close friends given that they both have memories of what the Universe was like before The Burn.
It's fascinating that "The Doctor" could potentially out-live everybody since he isn't physically tied down to a body but can transfer his "Digital Concious-ness" to new Computer Hardware that can be easily copied & multiplied.

He's the one of 2 potential character that can be almost "Truly Immortal".

The other being Data.

I wonder if the 2 ever met, I'm hoping Data lived past "The Burn" along with the other Synths.
