Starfleet Academy clips

Starfleet Academy did come out in 1997. I was in college at the time and my roommate and I played it quite a bit. It was a hell of a game for its time and quite addictive.

Pretty cool and I'm surprised they got Shatner for this. Sadly, they filmed it after he had some facial work done and this was pretty much the end of Shatner looking anything like he used to. This is one of the reasons I don't really need to see Shatner's "Kirk" in a new movie; the guy hardly even resembles the Shatner of Generations.

It's a shame he never allowed himself to just grow old gracefully...

Looks pretty much the same to me.

mods, I know it's a game, but since it has live action of Shatner, Koenig and Takei, I'd like to get reactions from the TOS crowd here.
I'm cool with that. I haven't looked in Gaming yet, but you might want to mention this thread there as well for folks who don't normally visit this forum.

Okay, maybe I was a little extreme about him looking "totally different" at this point. But you can see the tightness in the eyes, the slant of his eyebrows (looking almost Vulcanish) and some facial mannerisms that show he has trouble moving certain area (like Joan Rivers - kinda).

This was the beginning, though. Now he looks even farther from this.

Yep. Fat people tend not to have that many wrinkles, so maybe he didn't have any work done. Perhaps he just gained another 50 lbs. :)

My God...when did this game come out?

Care to elaborate on your exasperation?
You're appalled? Overjoyed? Delighted? Aghast?

Amazement. No idea this existed. I haven't been this pleasantly surprised since I found out about Secret of Vulcan Fury--a game I still think should have been finished by another company, considering they had graphics, a script written by D.C. Fontana and supposedly recorded dialogue from Dee Kelley and Jimmy Doohan. All now wasted.

It kinda reminds me of the "Lost Episode" of Batman: The Animated Series. Where 16 minutes of original animation was made for the Sega CD video game. A video game console that quickly came and went.

I don't know much about computers, so this is probably a silly question, but could you (in theory) play that today on a modern PC? 10 years later?

^ I love it. It was the last time Shatner played Kirk.

Also the first appearance of a live-action female Andorian with dialogue, pre-dating Suzie Plakson's Tarah (ENT).

Here's Vanda M'Giia, as played by Julianna Robinson. M'Giia was the only survivor of an early Klingon invasion of Lursen Prime, an Andorian colony world.

There was also a great novelization of Interplay's game by Diane Carey (1997).

Absolutely. I occasionally dig my copy of Starfleet Academy out of the closet and play it.

Yeah, I just did, some of the missions were noticeably more difficult than they had ever been before because of the increased speed of my comp, but it was a lot of fun.

The toughest mission to conquer due to that was
"Into the Abyss"

...Facial work??? What facial work?
