Game Starfield

So I’ve managed to clock a few hours now.

Unsurprisingly it was overhyped. But it is visually stunning, it plays like any other Bethesda game - the Galaxy is huge - you could easily clock hundreds of hours on this if you wanted to. Best part is it’s fun to play, which is what it’s all about. Playing on series X.

On PC New Atlantis is awful. Getting out of there looks a ton better but even on the Xbox stuff I've seen New Atlantis is an abomination, imo.

It is No Man’s Skyrim. Though I’m finding the missions and characters a bit bland.

Looks respectable to me on the Series X/S.

Apparently according to reviews the game takes a couple of hours to get going, i'll be waiting for your recommendations if i should get it sometime.

If you have game pass you can play it as part of that from the 6th.

As far as mission variety and interest, not sure mine is the best opinion to take. If you like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, you’ll probably like Starfield.

As a bonus, at least on Xbox, it is the most technically stable release from Bethesda so far.

I played the game to New Atlantis.

I found for myself that the controls are clunky and frustrating, and that the help menu is missing topics, like how to use the gravjump and how to scan. I had to look these up online. Some controls, like the LB, are used for dual purposes, like flashlight and scanning. Other times it can be annoying to have to jump through so many screens to get a basic thing done.

There is a almost complete lack of a tutorial. The player is thrown into the game, with minimal explanation given on how things work.

Looks fine to me, looked a lot better on previews but it’s fine.

New Atlantis got better on the return trip when the lighting changed from the entry area (also I have DLSS and a ReShade on now) but that first appearance in the city is completely washed out and the washing out still shows up near one of the train entrances, There's something funky going on with lighting. IDK if it's HDR or shaders but it's all kinds of fugly. I was pleasantly surprised though when New Atlantis looked tons better after returning. Still not great but not so bad I'm wondering wtf has happened to Bethesda.

@Lakenheath 72 - It's really weird there's no tutorial on anything. They really expect everyone to have played Fallout4 and Skyrim to figure out crafting but stuff like docking and how to outpost you're on you're own. I still haven't figured out how to do an outpost. The robot tells you once but I haven't been able to get that dialogue back and I'm not entirely sure that he said was enough of a how to anyway. It's not intuitive.

I'm having fun playing it though. I def. think anyone that enjoyed Fallout and/or Skyrim will enjoy it.

Kept telling me my graphics drivers were out of date, and crashing every few minutes. Did some research and apparently a Radeon 580 is too old to run the game. Cost to get up to min spec (new card)? Nearly £400. Nope, not happening.

Thanks for the video, it's given me some ideas of how I can upgrade my PC instead of buying a new one.

I played some more of the game.

Exploring the planets is tedious and not worth the effort, and the survival mechanics do not make sense.

On my latest playthrough, I went to Procyon IV. I started exploring the planet wearing a spacesuit. The night came on, and there was snow and freezing cold. My character wearing a spacesuit caught frostbite and hypothermia. WTF. What is worse is that when a character does get afflictions, there is no guide for deciphering the glyphs.

The side missions on these planets and moons are boring. On Kreet, the side mission was to install a gas vapor sensor for a colony. On Procyon IV, recover a wayward scientist.

Frankly, exploration should be fun, and they have managed to kill all the fun in it.

I got a kick out of......

Telling Claire I didn't want her to travel with me.
