Game Starfield

I’m mostly skeptical about the game because it sounds like it expects you to do a lot of fetchquesty stuff.

I’ve never gotten into an Elder Scrolls game mostly because the NPCs haven’t interested me enough to care about the story so it just feels like a bunch of jerks ordering you around. And decisions never feel genuinely consequential, combat feels like it’s based on attrition instead of strategy or skill, so the bill of the game is just fetchquests and grinding. If Starfield is like that I probably won’t get it.

Get Baldurs Gate 3 then and once you've sunk 100 hours in to finish the main story enough reviews are out for you to know if you want to get Starfield

That's why I quit after a few hours. I got it super cheap in a gog sale so didn't mind I only spent like a few dollars.

I know a lot of people rate them highly, but this is pretty much how I feel about the two I've tried:(

BG3 was 3 years in Early Access and still ended up with over 1000 bugs, lots of cut content post release. Starfield is going to have 5 days Early Access.

Your point is? Modern AAA games are so complex and large that bugs are inevitable. It is however one thing to release a game in a near unplayable state or have some minor bugs. Yes, BG3 keeps crashing on me occasionally ( i.e. maybe once every couple of hours if that) but it was well enough right from the start which i can't always say for new AAA titles at the moment.

So like the sucker that I am I've bought the premium version for early access - I'm not home tomorrow but I'll be able to play it over the weekend. Anyone else bought it for early access?

Nah... After Cyberpunk I will no longer be buying v1.0 releases of anything. I knew better before, but I wanted it so bad I pre-ordered the stupid thing for all the early access perks, etc. Big mistake. One of the largest disappointments I've experienced in gaming in a long time - expectations were far too high. I'm going to wait until they get a few updates out the door to patch the inevitable gaping holes people are going to find in glitch-land before taking the plunge.

Last one I did it with with was Hogwarts Legacy - which turned out great (though I got bored it before completing) so haven't been stung yet, hopefully that won't be the case here.

No. I was suckered into buying premium version of Diablo 4 and while it was an entertaining game i haven't touched it much since i completed the main story.

Currently i'm sinking most of my video game time into Baldur's Gate 3, which is awesome, but i'll be definitely checking out Starfield once i'm done with BG3 ( given the rate i'm playing at could be another month or two). By that time i hope the biggest bugs have been patched out and some real reviews are out that paint an unbiased picture about the game. I've been burned too many times by big review sites to blindly believe what they're saying.

I already have Starfield downloaded on the Series X. Now I'm downloading it to the Series S!

This is the great thing about the xbox series expansion card, basically you can move the game from X to S and back and play it from the card, it is a must for people with both consoles.

I bought early access and then watched Florida get gloriously beaten down by Utah. So I started playing a bit late and tbh, I'm a little disappointed. The PC version is smooth and so far bug free. The first part of the game looked impressive but then....well then... you go to the cities and the game looks terribad visually. It looks like a last gen mid grade title. I mean not even triple AAA last gen although certain sections look very good (I was excited in the first phase where colors were dark and once again when you get to the lodge house where there are dark colors) but other sections are blindingly awful. It reminds me of Cyberpunk visually (not buggy but visually) before the fixes Night City and NPCs looked awful - washed out and awful but then came DLSS and patches and suddenly that ugly texture looks great and the lighting fixes the blandness of the cities.

So once I hit that I installed a DLSS bridge mod and ReShade to try and help and it has helped a little bit but the game still looks like a crayon version of itself. The thing is I can see how great it should look. The visuals are there but they are washed out and locked down terribly. I think this will be fixed relatively soon though - you can definitely tell that the outline for majesty is there which is what I expect in Beth games.

That being said... so far the game is good and runs well. I haven't gotten far enough to say much more.

Oh and before you ask I'm running on Ultimate and it just isn't working as intended visually.

Modders will add them first thing, never fear.

Well first has been adding DLSS. And trust me, you want that and you want it bad once you see this game in FSR2.

Right now I'm begging for ENB to save me because my ultra modded version of Skyrim looks better than Starfield and it's not close.

Me and my boyfriend grabbed Early Access upgrades, and so far I'd say the game is a much slower start than other Bethesda RPGs, but it also seems to be launching in the best state for their RPGs. My biggest critique is with the maps in use while on a planet/moon. I don't think they tell you much of anything. My partner though has dyslexia and there are nowhere near enough accessibility options and working through the menus has been a struggle for him. Hoping that will change with time, but I am still excited to dive into the Starfield galaxy

Kept telling me my graphics drivers were out of date, and crashing every few minutes. Did some research and apparently a Radeon 580 is too old to run the game. Cost to get up to min spec (new card)? Nearly £400. Nope, not happening.

So I’ve managed to clock a few hours now.

Unsurprisingly it was overhyped. But it is visually stunning, it plays like any other Bethesda game - the Galaxy is huge - you could easily clock hundreds of hours on this if you wanted to. Best part is it’s fun to play, which is what it’s all about. Playing on series X.
