Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4 - 6?

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

We do know that there is at least some kind of anti-droid mentality on the part of the public in the Original Trilogy. In Episode 4, when they first enter the bar on Tatoonine, the bartender is adamant that the droids must leave because they "don't serve their kind here."

I had always assumed that was because droids would take up space and not buy any drinks.
Pretty much.;)

because episodes 4-6 take place 20 some years after episodes 1-3 and they cleaned up the mess left behind by the Clone Wars.

Driods are biodegradeable as per the Empire's Green Policy. Residents of the Empire are forced to pay a 7% green tax on all items to help facilitate this.

No wonder there was a Rebel Alliance, amirite?

You don't see any of the robots because the original trilogy has a better cast.

Why would we? For one thing, they weren't everywhere on every world, for another thing 20 years is a long time to clean up the places they might have been left.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to say : Don't give Lucas any ideas.

I suppose that's possible. :techman: But I always did assume it was because they were prejudiced against droids.

Yet, but Ep 4 they had forgotten all about the dreaded hokey religion of the Jedi. You know those guys with magical powers that had been in every part of the Republic until the Emperor had basically branded them as terrorists... Yeah, completely forgotten.

Because aside from a one-off line from Kenobi, the Clone Wars did not exist in the 1970's when Lucas wrote the OT. The PT was, by his own admission, nothing but a vague outline back then.

really? i thought the 3 trilogies were already thought up before hand.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some junk dealerships across the galaxy that had droid soldiers parts. Something akin to what we saw in Cloud City, just on a larger scale.

That's what Lucas claimed at the time, but in the years since, he's admitted that he wrote a backstory for the OT, which is where he came up with Anakin Skywalker, and what happened to him, but for many years it was only a vague outline. He didn't start to write the PT in detail until 1994, and it was at this point that Padme, Shimi, Quin-Gon and Mace Windu were created. The Mace Windu name does date back to the first script written in 1973, but like everything else in that first version, bore little resemblance to the character Sam Jackson played.

And the "3 trilogies" thing was something that Lucas also claimed back then, but now he says that he never had a story for episodes 7-9 and never had any intention of making them.

^ I'll reference the great book "The Secret History of Star Wars" which touches on Lucas' revision of history for the franchise.

I like this thread and wondered too - I'm surprised Lucas didn't retroactively edit droid headed into backgrounds of scenes like the Jawa Sandcrawler.

Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4
Because they hadn't been thought of when those films were made. That's why.

I've seen that book online, but never gave it much thought. Is it worth checking out? Since you're referencing it, I'll assume you've read it.

It's terrific...and gives great insight into the early workings of "Star Wars". Provides a look at Lucas's early life and the mentality of what went into creating Star Wars. It's well worth a read, it's over 500 pages so it goes into a lot of depth.
