I always thought that the emperor replaced droids with clones because he alone could control their weak minds with the force, thus insuring loyalty, whereas anybody could use a droid army against him which is why he would have had them destroyed and why the rebels didn't have them to use?

Lucas has explained in audio commentaries why he used the droid army. Palpatine doesn't need the force to "control" the clones remember, they already have built in genetic loyalty matrixes or whatever you want to call them, i.e. Order 66 was an example of this.

i liked the robot droids. i don't understand why they can't add more to the original trilogy. it can make it more epic.
